Precisely What Was Needed...
I have to admit, some of the reviews for item made me hesitant, but I was desperate for a solution and pulled the trigger. My situation is like many here - our main desktop is in our bedroom, and while my wife sleeps (or attempts to), I often work/play/surf on the computer. You know, general purpose computing. And while this arrangement isn't ideal, it's what we have for now, and a quiet mouse would go a long way to make things a bit more pleasant.I had no idea there were 'quiet' mice (mouses?), but I knew for some time now that I really needed one. My wife and I has actually had one or two unpleasant exchanges about the sound of the mouse at night. I was so pleased when I searched and found out there actually were silent mice! But I was also disappointed to read the not-great reviews. Doesn't it work? They sell a quiet mouse that isn't quiet?Bottom Line: It's very very quiet. I suppose the term, "Silent" is a bit extreme, but exactly how quiet can one reasonable expect a mouse to be? The left and right clicks are quiet, the wheel is silent, the side navigation buttons are quiet (although these side buttons make the most noise, which is to say they are about as loud as an amoeba fart). I should add that in our home, we use a sound/noise machine when sleeping, so quiet noises would be drowned out anyway. We did, however hear our old mouse through the white noise. Not so with this one. Based on some of the reviews of this mouse, I expected some noise, but for all practical purposes, this mouse is very muted - and I'm a very satisfied buyer. You open the box, put in the batteries (included!), plug in the tiny receiver and a driver is quickly installed, (presumably stored in the receiver?) and you're ready to go! Yes, the product page states that the receiver stores within the housing of the mouse, but that has to be a mistake in the text - there simply is no slot or compartment within the mouse for it. Who knows why they put that description in there, but personally, I don't care! I don't need it. But if I did, and I were to travel around with this mouse, big freaking deal. I'd manage to store that tiny receiver somewhere, I'm sure. What's with all the complaints about that?If you're buying this mouse for its main feature, quietness, then do so with confidence. If not having the hideaway slot for the receiver in the mouse is a deal breaker, then stay away, you big baby.Other reviews complained that the automatic 'sleep' mode kicks in about half hour after being idle, claiming that was too long. I agree. A half hour to shut itself off to save battery life does seem a bit long, however again, my experience was different. I didn't time it or anything, but I was expecting this long wait period before it would sleep, but it seems to be only like 10 minutes to me, no way 30. A simple quiet click and it's back to life. So, unless the quality control for this product is tremendously erratic, meaning everyone has a different experience, this mouse has my highest recommendation. By my experience, it does everything it says it should do and it genuinely impressed me. I can only assume your mileage 'may' vary - but only slightly, if at all. Did I just get lucky and recieved one of the 'good' quiet mice? Nah, I'm sure you will, too. If not, just return it, right? The quiet is waiting for you.

Nexus Silent Mouse SM-8000B
The mouse is considerably quieter than a normal mouse with the irritating sharp clicking noise removed. Instead it makes a dull click sound that is much more useful in quiet environments. The noise is still quite noticeable if you lift your finger off the button when you press but it becomes very quiet when the finger is left on top of the button. The scroll wheel is also silent unless you vigorously scroll back and forth. The buttons are non-programmable which should have been stated on the box but that can be easily found out through minor browsing. The response is quick with no noticeable issues of lag.The mouse is a bit on the heavy side compared to standard mouses provided by Dell/Microsoft and such but slides well on a mouse pad. It does have trouble on uneven surfaces and can conflict with mouse accuracy. However, a mouse pad and maybe even something under that, easily fixes the problem. The thumb slot isn't actually meant to be used to rest the thumb so don't expect the mouse to encompass your hand. The receiver is small and can be left plugged in without too much worry of it breaking or getting in the way. There is a slot for it in the mouse, should you prefer that.Gently tapping the mouse can produce noise from the looser parts, possible the scroll wheel and buttons. Otherwise, seems of sturdy construction.Only available in black unlike the SM-7000 which can be black or whiteOverall: No problems for quiet work spaces unless the user has unnecessary anger issues which a quiet mouse would not be able to fix. Not the best for hardcore gaming but completely viable for casual/hobbyist gaming.

Great mouse
This is a great computer mouse. When I got it everything worked as intended with no issues. One thing is that it DOES NOT have a slot to store the nano receiver inside the mouse. I don't think it's an issue in any way, it's just a lie on the product page. Two things about this mouse pleased me very much. It is light weight, and it is a good size that fits your hand, not too small. It also has a thumb rest which is quite nice.Down to the functional level, the mouse has very good responsiveness, and it is as silent as can be, very excellent.I also warn people to NOT buy it used. All the people giving poor reviews must have bought used ones that were broken or mishandled.I bought mine new and it works just perfect.

Returned the Day I got it.
This is my first review...usually I am pretty easy to please, so if I wrote a review you KNOW it isn't good. I really needed a silent mouse. Left click was pretty quiet....but then right click ended up being louder than my regular mouse. Also, you would definitely need to use a soft/fabric mousepad (as opposed to the more hard surface gaming ones I got when I used to have time to be a gamer). Something about the construction at that bottom makes it so that you can hear the gliding sound pretty loudly as well. I think the compartment for the battery might be hanging a little too loose and downward. Now that I study at the library all day, I just couldn't tolerate a mouse with a loud right click (I use right click quiet frequently!), and I rather not have to buy an additional mousepad. I returned this product the day I got it. I figure I'll give the cheaper Nexus 7000 silent mouse a shot (not holding my breath though). It might be more worth its cost as its cheaper. If not, I'll give quiet mouse innovations' quietsmooth mouse a shot. It seems to have good online reviews and only uses one AA battery.
