Q: Does this fit U.K. taps ?

I can't 100% confirm if it will fit your tap. However, it comes with two sizes of tap fittings, a thread reducer fitting and thread tape. The largest fitting is the type that is commonly found/used on outside garden taps/hoses. The smaller fitting is the one that fitted directly onto my mixer tap. There is also a reducer fitting you can screw into the smaller of the two supplied fittings if your mixer tap has a smaller thread.

Q: Is it not a waste of water to have the whole tap on to generate enough suction to empty the tank? Does it just go down the sink?

Yes it is a complete waste of water and will put up your bill if you’re not careful so I don’t use it for that. My pipe goes out the window. Then to refill tank it’s attached to the sink. It’s a pain the arse for me having to move the pipe around, but having a bad back means this is the easiest for me. No buckets.

You can buy a clamp style hosepipe connector that goes over your tap but it depends what shape your tap is. If you have a large tank then I say it's definitely worth trying to find a work around to fit it as it is the best aquarium related thing we've ever brought. Saves so much time and energy!
