Q: Can this be used on a dirt driveway?

Emily, Thank you for your question. It is not recommended. Dirt and or rocks could get up into the auger and cause damage. Earthwise/American Lawn Mower Company

I believe there was an option to buy an extra battery.

Q: I just assembled my Earthwise and there is one leftover part without any instructions. It’s a hard plastic green hook.Assume it’s for hanging thrower?

Karen, Thank you for your question. The part in question goes on units that use an extension cord. This part attaches to the handle so you can loop the extension cord and not pull on the electrical connection. It ended up in your unit by mistake. Earthwise/American Lawn Mower Company

SH, Thank you for your question. The SN74018 is designed to operate only with the 4amp battery provided with the product. Once depleted the battery can be recharged in roughly 2.5 hours.
