My First Elmer Bedtime: Shaped Board Book (Elmer Shaped Board Books)

Great little story for little ones at bed time, my 4 year old loves the bright colours and pictures.I was sent this book to review by Walker books.

This is such a lovely and fun board book for very young children to enjoy their first Elmer story. Elmer is on his evening walk while everyone is getting ready to go to sleep. All the little animals have their teddy bears with them and Elmer has his too. But he soon comes across a baby elephant who’s lost his teddy and Elmer decides to help find the baby’s teddy while giving his own teddy to the little elephant in the meantime. This board book has such a fun shape that when unfolded is shaped to be Elmer sleeping. The whole book is short but so fun to look at with colourful illustrations and text on glossy thick cardboard pages with rounded edges so it won’t hurt small hands.I like what happens and how simple but lovely this story is. Elmer is taking his walk before bedtime when he sees all the animals getting ready for sleep. The baby lions, monkeys, etc. all have they beloved teddy bears ready and Elmer is carrying his very own patchwork teddy with him too. But when he comes across the young baby elephant who has lost their teddy, Elmer kindly gives his own to the little elephant and promises to go and find it. The story is so simple with Elmer eventually finding the lost teddy along with someone else and I do like the ending, especially that last page when Elmer is asked a question and he answers something which is so true about children and their teddy bears.The illustrations are all so lovely and colourful and because of the shape of the book it’s fun to see the story in this way with very wide double pages and the top of each double page having a curved shape to the image. Each double page illustration is so lovely to look at too. I do love Elmer books for how colourful and fun they are to just look at. The story itself is good but I think everyone especially children just love seeing Elmer and the other animals in the pictures and seeing all the different details in the background too.Overall this is a fun little board book and quick story from Elmer and the perfect first book for children to have as a bedtime read. I love the shape of this board book, there’s something that makes it feel so special when you see it’s the shape of Elmer lying down and the story is a fun read too which I’m sure will be treasured.-Thanks to Andersen Press for a free copy.

This is a lovely book to hold and is a board book which makes it easy for children to turn the pages due to the thick cardboard. It is bright and vibrant too with very nice illustrations.The story is about lots of different animals and the importance of their teddy bears. It shows all the animals playing and relaxing with their parent and playing with their teddies too.One day Baby elephant looses his teddy and is crying so Elmer the Patchwork Elephant goes to find Baby Elephants teddy and in the meantime lets him borrow his own. He goes off and finds the missing teddy bear and returns it. Wilbur asks Elmer if he was worried that Baby Elephant might have wanted to keep his teddy bear but Elmer was not worried as he thinks All bears are special, especially your own.I received this Advanced Reading Copy directly from Walker Books for review purposes.
