Fairly Satisfied but Impressed
Used this to teach a friend how to play Chess. But game errors occur very often, hardly reversible or when reversed, changes the game play all together… even when the wrong move made is corrected. Most times I’m forced to stop the game and start all over again.Hoping a future update can solve this.Otherwise this is a fantastic Chess hardware to own! Very ingenious concept brought to reality here. I can take this with me anywhere! And when you have no one to play with, the AI is there… except it could be smarter.

Game changer
Lovely product. Amazing value for money. I'm 60 and really missed OTB chess when the pandemic struck and overnight we could not meet up. So I tried internet chess but I do not "see" the board in 2D as well. Now being able to play on chess.com and lichess.com using a 3D board is wonderful. I worried the roll up board would not roll flat (it does) It's easy to set up, the software is simple but appears effective. I am enjoying playing again. May dust down that copy of Silman's "Reassess your chess" again....

works fine for OTB experience
I bought this board to play slower games on Lichess and Chess.com .I watched its development for a couple of years before deciding to purchase it.The board itself cannot be used without being connected to the app on your phone or tablet and therefore is not a stand-alone chess computer. As I play in two chess leagues for my local chess club I wanted to replicate playing OTB chess rather than using a computer, tablet, or phone screen when online. The Square Off Pro provides this experience very well. The board itself is well made, the pieces and board are very similar in size and weight to those used in the local chess leagues and to date I have had no issues with it other than those caused by myself, that is user error.I have played about 20 rated games of 30 minutes per player on both LiChess and Chess.com . I have on occasions experienced the board indicating an ‘Error” when I have removed a captured piece on a flashing square and quickly captured it with an incorrect piece (as there was more than one option to take the piece) and therefore the computer says there is a’ error’ but this can be easily rectified by checking the board position on the app and then retaking the captured piece correctly.I have occasionally knocked over a piece whilst making a move and again this caused an error, but again quickly rectified. Pieces need to be centred on their squares after making a move and sliding a piece across the board whilst moving it, is likely to cause a problem as pieces are best lifted off the square they started on and placed onto the centre of the square they are going to land on.A useful video on YouTube explains how to correct misplaced pieces or when you have knocked over a piece/pieces.Over all, I really enjoy using the board to play longer games.

Great concept and look/feel but the computer/app is poor in my opinion - needs more development.
Had this board for a month and I have to say, it disappointing for the price it's being sold at. The strength of this chess set lies in the concept and the look/feel which are both excellent. Its weakness is the chess computer (which is on a connected iphone/ipad app) and this company should really think about outsourcing this as I imagine it's a VERY difficult thing to get right. On level 3 the computer plays like an idiot, throwing away piece after piece. The next level up and its like the Terminator - looking 2/3 moves ahead and never making a mistake. (I haven't tried the adaptive level yet.) My ELO is 750 and I'm not enjoying playing against this computer at all - haven't won a game yet. It is a pale shadow of the Chess.com AI which feels very human and makes the typical mistakes opponents at my level. I think they should focus on their strengths (concept/design) and team up with a decent established chess software. Then, this set would be phenomenal. For anyone learning the game, I would suggest joining chess.com (or equiv) and getting up to a decent ELO (>1,000) before buying this board for anything but it's aesthetics.

Fantastic board
Great interactive board which works seamlessly with the software downloaded to phone or tablet. Large pieces and portability of the board make it user friendly and a fantastic way to play online or with friends.

Excellent chess set and impossible to beat on the higher levels.Shame the chess pieces cant be folded up along with the set. What ever you do do not purchase this off it own website - I wont divulge why on Amazon - but sufficient to say buy it from Amazon.
