Marantz CD5005 CD Player,Black

I don't usually write reviews online, however I feel I should share with others what an incredible piece of audio equipment this is. For classical music this CD player is a match made in heaven. Sound is very detailed, spacious, crisp, sweet, pleasing, musical and engaging. CDs I have owned for twenty-five years and listened to many times yield unexpected pleasures on this player. Every listening session is a joy and it has rekindled my passion for music. Coupled with the Sennheiser 600 headphones and a dedicated headphone amplifier the Marantz CD5005 provides genuine audiophile quality at an approachable price. Not to be missed!

Great sound quality. Short break in period. Excellent soundstage. Zero distortion. Dynamic extension is spot on. Only beef is my display is in Spanish, Lol. Any ideas on how to set to English would be appreciated.

I have owned multiple CD players over the years, NAD, Cambridge, Onkyo, Yamaha and multiple from Marratntz. This player is only a few days old (may not be fully "broken in"). Compared to CD5004 from same company there is a definite upgrade. It start and loads faster, sound is a bit warmer, dare I say more analogue like. Display is a bit "different" and not as easy to read across the room but that is only negative. Voices seem clearer and more 3D and seems to partner well. Associated equipment is Marantz PM 6004 amp. and PSB B5 speakers. Overall highly musical and sounds more like a more expensive player.

I already owned an Onkyo C-7030, and purchased the Marantz CD5005 to improve on the Onkyo's shortcomings, add the pitch control feature, and be able to share my existing Martantz amp remote control. The CD5005 has delivered, and so far I'm happy with this unit. In the Box: CD player, detachable power cord, audio cables (both L/R analog, and digital - not optical), remote control, batteries for remote, user manual on CD, printed quick start guide. Remote Control: - If you own another Marantz product, chances are it uses the same remote control unit. This is very convenient, and essentially renders the new remote as a spare/backup. - The remote allows access to features which are not available on the front panel. Namely pitch control, display dimmer, track randomization, Repeat - which allows defining and repeating any segment - and the standard, 'all' and 'track' repeat function. Digital display: - Includes track titles, which the Onkyo lacked - Dimmable from remote Headphones: - Independent volume control - Plugging in the phones does not cut off the main output. - No comment on sound quality since I only tested for functionality. Shock resistance is dramatically improved over the Onkyo, which sometimes had trouble tracking during floor vibration. Build quality: - Nice with a solid feel, as was the Onkyo. - For both decks, the CD tray is a bit flimsy, and maybe not what you'd expect from a $400 deck. - Only complaint about the enclosure is I'd prefer a lower profile. Seems needlessly tall and bulky. It matches the amp case, so the components are a visual match. Sound quality is excellent (based on analog output), and being a professional musician, the pitch control is a very nifty bonus. Others have complained about no eject on the remote. I don't see the need so no deductions there. Others have asked about variable output. Main output is constant. The volume controls on the remote are for the amplifier, not the CD deck. Again, no deduction since that would be really unusual and unnecessary. Four stars based on enclosure bulkiness and CD tray quality.

It sounds terrific and looks great. An excellent bargain at the $299 I paid! Update, I ended up selling it because it skips on a favorite cd of mine which plays well on other machines. No excuse for this as it's not exactly cheap even at the price I paid plus it's a marantz and I expect better.....

I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed at first but it does sound much better when you use the bypass mode shutting off all the unnecessary circuitry. It still seems a bit heavy on the bass but overall I would say the sound is pretty clean but I'm not sure it's any better than the Yamaha carousel that I replaced. The biggest negative is your CDs have to be pretty much perfect(no smudges or minor scratches) or it'll skip which is kind of ridiculous and defeats one of the major selling points of CDs.

Sounds as good as a much more expensive separate transport and DAC which cost me four times as much. This player is about as good as it gets for CD playback!!

Needed a new CD player for my Marantz receiver and saw this one as a great addition. Provides good sound but lacks some features.

Abrí la caja con mucha ilusión lo conecté y fue incapaz de leer cualquier disco. PROBÉ con 20 diferentes incluso uno nuevo, NADA DE NADA! Lo devolví a AMAZON. Espero que pronto me devuelvan el dinero. Aún así, pedí otro igual y espero que ese sí funcione. De no ser así lo devolveré de nuevo. Llegó el segundo reproductor hace casi una semana- Funciona de maravilla es verdaderamente el mejor que he tenido, comparable a otros mucho más caros. Ahora sí entiendo porqué lo reseñan como la mejor compra del mercado por su precio Además Amazon ya me devolvió el dinero del primero que llegó defectuoso. Así que muy contento con la compra.

fiquei encantado com a qualidade que consigo ouvir agora meus cds nesse aparelho, impressionante o poder de deixar o som mais aveludado, ouvindo certos detalhes na musica que eu nao conseguia ouvir atraves de um aparelho de blu ray que usava pra ouvir meus cds, fiz a conecao atraves das saidas analogicas e a sensacao que se tem e que voce esta ouvindo um super audio cd.....mesmo sendo um aparelho muito caro, acho que vale o investimento se vc e do tipo de pessoa que aprecia ouvir uma boa musica....mas e claro que vai depender muito da qualidade dos cds, mas como a grande maioria o som e bom....nele fica perfeito como deveria soar , recomendo !

Várias avaliações citam dificuldade de leitura do aparelho. Toquei diversos CDs, alguns com riscos e leu todos normalmente. Também foi citada lentidão nos comandos e gaveta, não constatei isso. Funcionamento normal. Quanto à qualidade de reprodução, de fato tem som mais aveludado e profundo que o Blu-ray Sony que tenho, devido à qualidade do DAC. Está conectado a AVR Denon e caixas Polk, o som ficou equilibrado e cristalino. Avalie o quanto você é criterioso, exigente quanto à acuracidade de som pois custa 10 vezes mais que um aparelho padrão leitor de BD e CD. Este só lê CD, porém com maestria.
