No more stinky trash
After living in our home for almost 5 years, our HOA decided that all trash cans needed to be inside the garage. My side patio next to our garage was no longer acceptable. We've always just collected clumping litter in plastic grocery bags and discarded with our regular kitchen trash. Being outside there was no problem but in the confines of the closed garage a weeks worth of litter quickly became smelly no matter how tightly I closed the bags. Enter the Litter Genie. I found it to be very nice size to fit in our small laundry room right next to the litter box. It's very simple to just open the lid, drop in the clumps, open the trap door and every thing magically disappears and then it's tightly resealed when you close the trap door. I usually change the bag after 2 weeks, but have gone as long as 3 weeks. Seems there's plenty of room for more. We're now using a silici based litter so it's only the solid waste. Larger clumps may fill it faster. Staying inside the house, there's no odor and my garage of course smells better. I highly recommend the Litter Genie. I picked the Platinum Pail, liking the white color and thinking the metal would be less likely to absorb odors. It's been about 3 months and I'm still using the bags that came with the Litter Genie, I'm not sure how many are left. But I have a back up box waiting... If you've been thinking about a Litter Genie , for sure, for a 1 cat household it's a very nice system. My laundry room is cleaner, no more bags of grocery bags hanging on the door knob and much easier to quickly scoop out the waste, so the box stays cleaner.

So perfect
Love my litter genie! It keeps the smell of the kitty litter trapped and I don’t have to throw bags away 24/7 it’s also cute and looks good so people arent like ew what is that! 😂 fit is perfect in my laundry room right by the litter box so I’m also not transporting it everywhere. It is very compact and small but holds a bunch! Value for the money is absolutely there and I 100% reccomend it! Quality is great and easy to use! I highly reccomend this if you HATE taking out trash everytime your scoop the litter box like me!

Fantastic Solution
I live on the third floor of an apartment building and I am not about to run down to the dumpster every time my cat opts to use his litterbox at 3 AM. This is a great solution! It seals in smells so well that you don't smell anything when it's closed. It smells a little bit when opened but not very much at all and holds multiple days' worth of waste. Do note that this takes the easy roll refills, not the old kind with the square top. I'd recommend this one to anyone who doesn't have ready access to an outside trash can on demand.

I feel like a spoiled rich person now
If you have a cat, just buy it. It’s everything you want it to be. It’s so much easier than hoarding Walmart bags under your sink, especially now that Walmart bags rip if someone thinks a mean thought about them. There’s no trying to get the stupid little bag to stay folded open, no being engulfed with the poop smells while scooping, no filling your trash can up with heavy litter daily and wasting valuable actual trash room. And it has a holder for the litter scoop, so no scoop wrapped in a Walmart bag hidden under the sink. My kitchen sink cabinet has never been more roomy, y’all. We have two cats and three boxes. The litter genie fills up about every four days for us. That sounded like a lot to me, so I did the math for bag refills to make sure I was willing to pay for them long term. A refill is $20, with 24 bags per roll. If I’m changing the bag every four days, that’s about 3 months of bags per roll (I’m not showing you my math because I’m bad at math and easily embarrassed. If I’m wrong let me live in blissful ignorance, please). That sounds fair to me, but if it doesn’t work with you, the Walmart bags or small trash bags would almost definitely fit in the genie, so you can MacGyver it to fit your lifestyle. I love this thing. I mean really. I was worried the bags would rip, they’re crazy strong. I was worried it would fill too fast, but I’m using 4x less plastic bags than I was before, and frankly, the full bag is a little hefty, so any bigger and I’d probably struggle to carry it out. I was worried the smell wouldn’t stay trapped, but unless you open the trap door while the top lid is open, you can’t tell there’s four days worth of cat potty right next to you. As for troubleshooting tips based on what other reviews complained about, never fear, I have suggestions. - Having trouble keeping the bag secured? Not enough free edge to tie the bag once it’s time to change it? Too much strain on the bag made it rip through the clips? Roll/cuff the top of the bag a couple times before you clip it into place. Reinforces bag, gives the clips more to hold, and keeps enough bag left for a good tie off. - Too much litter/dust collecting on top of the loading zone? Shake out your scoop more so you’re carrying less free litter, don’t scoop as much at one time, and/or drop the doodie into the pail more frequently so the clumps stay in the little trap door space, not sitting on the rim. Also, the bigger the scoop, the more stray litter you’re going to have going on the rim. The included scoop works really well and is obviously sized for the genie, so if you’ve got your own and it’s bigger than theirs, that might be part of your issue. - Scoop holder falls on your floor every time you go to change the bag out because you’re a big dummy who forgets that it’s only held on by the top lid every single time you open it somehow? I’m probably the only one with that problem, but if I’m not, lil bit of poster putty to stick the holder to the base, while keeping it removable for cleaning! I know, I know, I have a big brain, please hold your applause. (Side note, if you’re not happy with your litter or think it doesn’t work well with the genie, shout out to the arm & hammer brand clump & seal multi cat ~slide~ litter. Low dust, great clumps, absorbs smell like a champ)

New Litter Genie owner and loving it!
As a senior citizen, I didn't want to have to do a lot of knot tying, or fiddling with the bags and this seemed like a better solution for me than the original Litter Genie model as my first time using one of these. I also like the look better. After about a month, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Initially, I used the Genie only for poo, as both kittens were using pine pellets in Tidy Cat Breeze boxes, so there were no pee clumps, a solution *I* liked very much! However, it became clear that one kitten did not *like* using the pine pellets, was holding his pee longer than he should, and to avoid urinary tract issues, I am now using non-clay clumping litter. So the bags are filling faster now, but it looks like we will use about a bag per week for two 10-month-old boy kittens of about 10 pounds each. Better than what the manufacturer describes! This may change as they develop their full growth and I expect it to, but if we use 2 bags per week, cost would remain reasonable for us and this is so much less unsightly than my previous 4 gallon OPEN wastebasket lined with regular trash bags. The set up is easy, though you must be careful to be sure your plastic bag is well held by the plastic hooks. I usually double-over the edge slightly and make sure all 4 hooks are fully engaged. I've not had any trouble with the bag becoming loose and falling off the hooks as it gets full. To gauge how full, you look down in the bag with the odor trap slider door opened, so at that time, it's possible odor might escape, but it's not been an issue for me with a quick peek here and there. You DON'T want to overfill, as that could prevent the odor control sliding trap from closing. Overfilling will also make it difficult to tie the bag off. So STOP filling when the level of litter is starting to approach, but is not yet AT the level of the odor trap slider! Removing the full bag is easy, just lift the top of the Genie, unhook the bag from the plastic hooks, twist it closed, tie it off, gently pull it up, separate the used bag at the perforation. Dispose of used bag, then hook your fresh bag to the plastic hooks, close it all up and ready to go! I think it is a good idea to open up the new bag by putting your hand inside and making sure it is all open and intact. That way the litter can drop in easy. I've had no odors, no problems, the unit feels sturdy and is not very likely to be knocked over by boisterous kittens (whom, just yesterday, brought down my full, 13 gallon kitchen trashcan). It looks nice. Is it perfect? Close, but not quite. I would like to see a pail style handle. There IS a molded handle at the back that you can grab the unit by to move it, but it is NOT well-balanced once the unit gets weighed down by litter! A pail style and hopefully METAL handle would make moving the Genie between litter boxes much easier. And that's why I docked a star. P.S. Just did third bag change, all continues to go smoothly. Am ordering another for upstairs use. Update: March 2025 Still completely happy with this purchase!

Use it frequently and it makes cleaning a breeze
Using doggie bags to clean the litter box before made me delay cleaning the cat box. I didn't like breathing the dust and then tying up the bag and taking to the outside trash. That means I didn't clean as frequently as I could have, and the box just gets worse when you don't clean it. Chicken and egg. With the litter genie, everything is so quick, clean, and simple, I clean the box 1-2 times daily. PROS - It's fast. Even the small steps of tearing off a doggie bag, opening it (always harder than you'd think!), collecting, tying off, and disposing, adds up. Now I open the lid of the genie, scoop, close genie, and pull the lever. DONE! Fewer trips to the outside trash! - It's clean. I love that the bag protects the genie, so the only thing touched by the dirty litter is the bag, which you eventually throw away. - It smells better. I don't smell anything from what I've stored in the genie until I have to empty the bag. I used to run an air filter by the litter box and I don't need it anymore. - No artificial scents. I'm sensitive to artificial scents, and the bags don't have a terrible artificial masking fragrance/deodorant, just a very mild sort of neutral cleaner/plastic smell. - It's made something that's a horrible chore something I really don't mind doing whenever I think of it. - It works as described. I follow the directions and have never had the bag fall in or gotten the genie dirty. See notes below about bag size/cost. GREAT TIPs from others: When you hook a new bag, push open with your hand so litter can easily reach the bottom. Also double-over the edge (just a bit) and make sure all 4 hooks are fully engaged. - I really like the scoop. I have three others, and this one fits the opening of the genie, and I haven't had any issues with the holder falling off, so it's convenient when I need it. - Compact enough and reasonably attractive to store in sight next to the litter box (I have a Modcat box). CONS - You do pay for replacement rolls. To me, this is a small tradeoff compared to the dirty, smelly, time-consuming process it used to be. I'd rather save my money in other ways, and it doesn't even seem bad given that a bag lasts me ~7-9 days and there are 24 bags on a roll. That's about 5-6 months per roll as advertised. - You can't fill the bag completely to the brim. But I really don't see this as a problem. For me, with one cat, it holds about a week's worth of waste at a time, and when I pull out the full bag, it's HEAVY. I wouldn't want to store or carry more than that. Good buy? I only have one cat, so your mileage will vary if you have more than one, but the way the genie works is the same. You'll just have to empty more frequently. Based on other reviews, you also have to be willing to accept the size limitations of the bag. If you're not willing to follow the instructions, it probably won't be great. Otherwise, don't hesitate to buy and you'll wonder why you waited so long!!

Nifty little dump station. Very Nice
Neat little system for odor control and easy to use. It's small footprint makes for easy placement and yet size is sufficient to hold substantial clumps without becoming too heavy to lift out bag for dumping. Very cool new bag replacement system from inside. New bags box stores within unit and auto deploys new bag as old is lifted out. You just tear off old bag and place top of new bag over holders, shut lid to secure

High Hopes!
I ordered this a few days ago - had to watch a video but figured it out easily and assembled it. It is in my laundry room near the automatic cat litter box. I find the waste odor from the auto clean litter box storage compartment gets smelly in a few days not a month as they claimed. So I scoop out the storage box every couple days placing the waste in lavender scented small pet poop waste bags and tie it closed. Then I open the lid and place the lavender bag in the top compartment of this system and close it again. Next I pull the handle which opens the inside compartment and drops the small lavender waste bag into the larger interior liner bag below and seals it off ready for next time. I’m planning to take the larger liner bag out once a week to the trash. This creates an odor free laundry room. The Crystal litter in the auto clean box absorbs the urine and leaves a minimal odor which dissipates. I will need to change out crystals in the auto litter box more than monthly I expect if I smell urine but hoping 3 weeks will be good depending on if I smell anything. Now that I have this figured out it will work great. The new cat has soft smelly waste that is not ideal in the auto machine. I plan to solve the cat’s GI issues too but as of right now our house once again smells fresh and clean at all times and I only have to do a quick 3 minute scoop, bag and toss every day or two and touch nothing. I’m a fan of this nifty little item. I even put it on the top of the counter in the laundry dry room so I don’t have to bend over. The scoop on the side comes in handy and the unit is not unattractive it just sits there being a little gray appliance. It rolls easily if you need to move it and works very well sitting on the floor out of the way too. Takes up very little room. Not expensive great design - hoping for zero odor ongoing - so far so good!!!
