If you have a dead laptop but the hard drive is working, this is an easy product that will rescue your data and transfer it to a new computer. All that's necessary is to extract the hard drive from your old computer. In this case, it was a laptop with a 2.5" SATA hard drive (just a matter of unscrewing the back of the laptop and then four screws to remove the drive.) This cable is all you need.It comes with two USB interfaces so you don't need an external power source. Just plug the two USB cables into the new computer and the other end into the old drive. There are two indicator lights when it starts working and a new drive will appear on your screen. Then transfer whatever files you want to keep.There are no instructions with the cable but you won't need any. It really is plug and play.

I tried a more expensive hard drive adapter first.One that shipped with 7 or 8 different parts, and took 10 minutes to figure out how to connect. Who knows, maybe I still had it wrong after trying to solve that puzzle, but my computer wouldn't recognize the external SSD with it.So, I bought this one. It is plug and play compared the more expensive and complicated adapter. You hook one end to your drive and the other ot your USB, and that's it. Obviously, that's mostly because it's only designed for USB to 2.5" SATA drives (while the other one was supposed to work for a variety of drive and connection types).Simple device that works well. I'm mostly tech illiterate, and with this device, I cloned and swapped my my laptop's (Thinkpad T420) HDD for a 240GB SSD (ADATA) very quickly and painlessly.

This seems to work well even without a separate power cable on solid state drives. I am currently using it as extra storage plugged directly into my ASUS router with an SSD. I have had 0 problems with the cable even with very extensive use. Very much plug and play. If you need more speed you will want to get a USB 3.0 version. I'l subtract 1 star because it does not support USB3.0 and because it does not support IDE.

Works like a charm, usually. Sometimes the hard drive goes to sleep, and disappears from My Computer in Windows.Still recommended to those who need to access data in a pinch. As long as the drive keeps spinning, it will not disappear.

What I liked least is how there are two USB plugs that needs to be utilized for the device to work.

This cable is a winner if you want to clone or work with an internal hard drive that can be connected to your USB. I've tried several other solutions including enclosures with the interface built in, but this is the simplest, cheapest, and works best.

This adapter works as advertised and did everything I needed it to as far as cloning my hard drive. I highly recommend this adapter if you are attempting to transfer or clone your hard drive.

Abit lose on the cd drive but does he job 👍🏻
