This is a great starting point for putting your yard into harmony with the low water Rocky's and Southwest.
It will not give you all the answers, but complemented with a lot of internet googling you can find the right trees, shrubs, etc for your local environment. It taught me a lot in terms of water use, sun needs, soil chemistry, plant hardiness zones(how cold they'll still survive in).The pictures are just a starting point, and their lists are not the comprehensive "be all", but maybe in my opinion the author's favorites, but good choices. Remember a lot of plants have little recorded info on their adaptability to say Colorado. I bet future versions add more, but also the preference is to guide folks to low water and xeric(desert, no water) plants, though high water plants are in here as well. There is a bigger list of trees, etc in one of the earlier chapters, then a later chapter goes into select species with great detail.I used this along with a great nursery in Colorado's website "Tree Farm" near Longmont, CO to gauge sun, soil, and water needs for two different properties I'm planting on, one with heavy clay, the other with gravely, loamy soil.IN SUMMARY: Good resource, place to start, but most likely will want to use some other resources as well.
