Magic: The Gathering 2022 Game Night - 5 Ready-to-Play Decks, 300 Cards, Ages 13+, 2-5 Players, 30+ Minutes

I played Magic the Gathering once when it first came out. I was getting tired of playing Pokemon with my son and bought some MTG Commander decks. I struggled finding rules that were clear for beginners, so didn’t play. We got the game night set for Christmas and the rules that came with it have been great for anyone with some basic board gaming experience. My now 10 year old and I have been playing this a lot and are enjoying it. The decks seem balanced as We have been able to win with every deck. The box layout is nice for unsleeved cards. The 20 sided dice for tracking health are nice quality and the +1/+1 counters that come with the game are convenient for tracking card changes.Only things to be aware of is that each deck is only one color making them less complex. I suspect experienced players would be turned of by this. I also sleeved the cards due to “sticky fingered” 10 year old and they don’t fit in the nice box insert with sleeves. I ended up removing the insert.Overall a nice friendly set perfect for new or returning MTG players to play fun friendly games together.

My kids and nephew really like this game. I have tried to play this game many times with them. They have lots of decks they have put together and commander decks as well. I started out trying to play on harder cards. I just could NOT wrap my mind around it. I’m pretty good at games, I play xbox 1 with them and other card games, but this is a hard one to figure out. There are SO many rules and each card say something different and the kids are speaking a different language with the game terms. I also have to wear reading glasses to see the magic cards… Im 43, haha! I was so frustrated, so I searched on here and found this! I just got it yesterday and we have played a few times now. Things are really coming together and I am understanding the game a lot better! My older son says these are very good starter decks that they actually include plenty of land and plenty of great creatures. I picked the water deck to start with and I liked that there was a siren in my deck! She is pretty cool. There’s no way I am figuring out the black deck for a while… but they played it very well. If you want to learn how to play with your kids or friends this is the set to buy. It has every single thing you need to get started. I also suggest watching a couple youtube videos. The only thing I wish the maker would do is either include sleeves or make the storage insert large enough to accommodate sleeves. The sad thing is once you put sleeves on you can’t use the nice insert. You can still use the box to store them. There is a great set of sleeves on here with every color you need. It has red, purple, white, black and blue. It is 17. I felt like that was a great deal after pricing individual sleeve color packs. While they are not extremely thick they are just fine. You definitely will want sleeves. It makes shuffling easier as you just kind of slide the deck into itself. You don’t ever shuffle these cards like normal cards. This game has been out since the 90s. I was a 90s kid and never heard of it lol. It’s actually pretty fun, but the best part is the time spent with my kids and nieces/nephews. I always want to try to learn the fun stuff they do so we can all hang out. If you’re on the fence buy this set!

I played this game 20+ years ago when it was new. I am super excited to get back into it!I never did do much trading or deck building, I just wanted to play. Therefore, this 5-deck starter is great. I can get my playing skills back and if I decide to play with customizing a deck I can mix and match a bit with just this one set. The decks are well-balanced with very few duplicates. The instructions are well-written and there’s a very comprehensive website as well.My favorite thing about this game is that there is both luck-of-the-draw AND strategy where you have to think on the fly and be adaptable.IDK how to use the double-sided cards, but I have a play session this weekend with some friends that have stayed in the game over the years.My SO played one round with me and there is a bit of a learning curve if someone is completely new to fantasy/D&D stuff. But I think he will grow to like it - the strategy and competitiveness of the game appeals to him.Definitely recommend for anyone that likes to have fun, strategize, and think on the fly!Edit: the 2-sided cards are to be used as “token creatures” when another card in your deck says you get a token creature. It’s nice to have those actually. I remember in the old days we used pennies.Also, I took this over to my friend’s house to play. Her man is way into trading and collecting the cards and he was very impressed by these decks, the setup, and especially the price. I beat my BFF with the white deck with her fave red deck that she built herself. I don’t think she let me win either LOL. Good Times!! Buy this!!!

If you're just getting started in playing MTG, this is the way to go versus buying a Commander Deck or similar setup. This has everything you need to play right out of the box. The decks are all pre-built and are great for learning the different play styles. They are also well balanced decks with no need to make changes, unlike my experience with the pre-built Commander Decks. This is great for family game nights too!

Comes with 5 pre constructed 60 cards decks, one of each color. Each has its own life counter d20, and there's a rulebook describing terms and card interaction.Good way to bring someone new to the fold or just play casually together at home. The decks aren't terrible but they're not super competitive and cutthroat either, they are also well balanced. it's all about fun.
