For We Are Many (Bobiverse)

Wow, this was a fun read! Genuine drama, but written with humor (the style reminds me of Stargate or Star Trek TOS). It's been a while since I've enjoyed a top tier space opera, with so many characters and worlds that you need a scorecard. The premise of Book 1 (where the protagonist is a Von Neumann AI) is developed and expanded very nicely in Book 2, as the AI "clones" display increasingly distinct personalities across generations, with some becoming decidedly more human and others becoming more distant from humans. The villain in Book 2 is considerably more ominous than in Book 1 -- sort of like upgrading from the Romulans to the Borg, or from the Goa'uld to the Replicators. The writing and pacing of this book are very good -- sort of a mashup of Isaac Asimov and Douglas Adams, with plot lines being developed briskly but not hastily. The fact that all nearly all of the technology is feasible with today's understanding of science makes the action feel closer and more fun (the exception to this hard science rule is the existence of FTL subspace communication, a forgivable cheat in the interest of plot pacing). My only gripe is that the aliens are heavily anthropomorphized. Last, but certainly not least, the Easter eggs for long-time sci fi fan are a blast! Anyone will enjoy this book, but if you're over 50 and read a lot of silver age sci fi you'll get a lot of references that younger readers will miss. Having recently finished a very, very long series by Peter Hamilton and a very dark novel by Ian Banks, this Bobiverse series has been a delightful change of pace for me personally. Delightful to find a series that's both well done and a lot of fun. I just bought Book 3.

The book is good. The baddies are a bit one dimensional, but the thought experiment is still strong. You need to have read the 1st book for sure. Going to read the third one. That's the best complement I can give

I have to say that I was surprised by the second book of the series. I enjoyed the first one but wasn't sure I would read the rest of the series ( I am an avid series reader:)) but decided to go on and get the second one because it was a nice read the first time around. How I'm glad I did. most "second" books or movies are normally more of the same or worse than the first, or even completely different. This was an improvement. I loved it and think it is more fun to read than the first. It starts off fast, with more action and more interesting things going on than the first book. Being that you are already immersed in the story and world, there is no need for long introductions and time wasted getting into things. Its just full on fun from the get go. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoyed the first one and would encourage anyone who isn't sure if they want to read the second one or not. Read it:)

An interesting concept that I believe will become possible. The story was always entertaining, no dull moments. I will read more from Mister Taylor.

For We Are Many, book number two of the Bobiverse, was another jolt of fun in my reading schedule! It takes the best parts about We Are Legion (We Are Bob) and takes them to their obvious next level. With a bit more action and lots of intriguing interactions as the Bobs continue to expand and explore what their existence truly means to them and to others, I would say that this sequel was exactly what I was hoping for. It didn’t really surprise me at all, but that’s alright. I got through it quickly, and like the first book it also similarly is not a long read. It makes for a little bit of that “Oh, let’s keep binging!” feel that is common to the LitRPG genre, which I think works very well for this series. The ‘hard science’ aspect of this series remains strong as well, at least in terms of technological development, keeping it as an instant recommend for those who love Hard Science Fiction. More than that, though, the Bobiverse series remains a love letter to the genre of Science Fiction as a whole, with fun references and tidbits scattered throughout. So, I will say again what I said in my review of the first book: this is absolutely a series worth checking out!

Finally have book two in hard cover. Got here in perfect shape! I'll be buying each one as they release with the new artwork. Now to wait for book three in March!

As a massive Bobiverse fan (Dennis E. Taylor is my all time favorite), this one delivers everything I love: the ever growing family of Bobs with their unique personalities and hilarious banter, epic debates (the MOOT scenes had me grinning), mind bending planet discoveries, and that signature blend of hard sci-fi smarts with laugh out loud humor. The stakes ramp up, the universe expands in wild ways, and the exploration feels so alive. If you loved We Are Legion (We Are Bob), this sequel builds on it beautifully without missing a beat. Pure joy for anyone who geeks out over replicators, alien encounters, and what it means to be “many.”

I'm getting addicted to these books. You really need to read them in strict order otherwise it won't make sense.

Awesome book. Very funny. Interesting perspective. Novel ideas and storyline.

Fast paced, great story development, believable characters. Bob does as most of us would do in the same situation. Eagerly awaiting to read the next book! Which will be in a few minutes : )
