Good Stuff, Expensive
This substrate is very chunky and comes very dry and clean. It will not make a mess when repotting, and is probably one of the best options for plants that need a lot of aeration in their substrate. There is a tiny bit of sphagnum moss in this, but I don’t think it’s enough to make any noticeable difference tbh. It’s very sparse. But regardless, I like this. It’s very chunky and even though I haven’t had anything planted in it for more than a week, I can tell that it’s going to be very hard to overwater and it’s going to be highly aerated. If you want to have a little more water retention just buy a little block of sphagnum moss (a little block of that stuff creates a TON of wet moss), or if you want to fill in the open space between the chunks you could use some perlite, or even some Aroid mix. See my second picture for what the majority of this product looks like. It’s difficult to pot an orchid with this if you’ve never done it before. In hindsight I would say to wet this product first, so that it has some weight to it, which will help to keep the plant upright. Otherwise you’ll have to continuously hold the plant up or stake it to keep it upright will filling the pot. It’s extremely light and blocky when dry.So I like everything about this stuff, nothing I mentioned is a negative to me (just trying to be helpful by pointing it out everything I can think of), but there is one negative; it seems expensive for what you get. For the mini bag, I was able to repot two orchids from 4” pots to one of each 5” and 6” pots, but I had to use a bunch of sphagnum moss, perlite and even some of the drier material from my Aroid Mix to fill the pots. It wasn’t enough for the two pots alone, at $20. I’m guessing the mini bag would fill about 1-1.5 pots which are 5-6” typical height pots. If you have repot multiple plants or you’re using large pots, you’re going to need a lot more than just the 2 quart mini bag (a quart is about 1 liter, it’s a little less, but remember this is very chunky stuff so a volume measurement isn’t super helpful because you’re cramming it all together in a pot much more than it is when it’s sitting loosely in the bag).

Wonderful starter kit for your orchids
Wonderful beginner set to help me with my orchids. So far so good. Very happy with the product. I did notice as people‘s reviews went that the moss and the bark were dry. However, that’s an easy fix. You just put a little water in and moistens right up.

Orchids are particular.
My orchid seems to like this potting mix. Since being repotted with this mix and an appropriate pot it is thriving.

Very Chunky Orchid Mix
This is very chunky, I put some of it through a food processor quickly to make pieces smaller but beware there are some stones. In this mix as well be sure to take out before doing this.
