Keiichi Tahara: Architecture Fin-de-siècle

I’m a professional architectural photographer and I do mostly documentary work. I ordered this set and was overwhelmed! I’ve seen some fine paper, printing and binding, in my time, and this three volume set is way over the top! Luxurious would be the best description, with “heavy” right behind. This is fine art with architectural elements, so finely interwoven, reflecting the photographer’s professional genius. A treasured addition to my library that will remain with me throughout my lifetime. On a five point scale I’d rate it a ten!

books are beautifully printed and displayed, however most of the photographs are close ups of details within the building, very close up. What to me was disappointing about the books is that it rarely showed an entire room or building to get a complete context--one generally needs to see the entire room of building to appreciate the details. In this respect it was a disappointment.

I bought it at a discount price which makes it useful. It is a 30 pound coffee table set. To make if "worth" the original price they included about 20% unnecessary gold printed blank pages. It's in three languages. Covers ONLY architectural elements of buildings and architects who you may not hear about too often.Text about many of the architects is brief but informative.

Seriously, these books (three volumes in a slipcase) and incredibly heavy. I was barely able to lift the box. I'm also not sure where I'm going to put them because they're huge. But the detail in the photos is magnificent, and the scope is excellent.

Thank you, Amazon and DHL Express.As for the book, this is a wonderful publication with beautiful printing.The only negative is, as many have already noticed, the abundance of close-up photos. Otherwise, this is a great edition at a good price.

Glorious books at less than half of the original price...the only issue is that one of the bindings broke almost immediately.

An amazing book!

Immerse yourself in achingly beautiful portraits of Art Nouveau buildings; swim through light, shadow, colour and shape; lose yourself in the visual splendours and powerful spirits of this timeless movement. These are not photographs of houses in the usual vein so much as dreamlike evocations of atmosphere and mystical awareness - captured naturally rather than deliberately contrived through distorting camera techniques. The scope of the project (representing a 5yr pilgrimage by photographer Keiichi Tahara) is matched only by the magnificent scale and quality of this Taschen edition. It is truly a monumental work; the ultimate tribute to the art form itself, the artist/photographer and the publisher. But I should add a note of caution to prospective buyers: the dimensions of this triple volume edition and its slipcase are formidable - the whole package probably weighing in at 8kgs or so. Consequently you should choose your MarketPlace seller carefully as I suspect some of them would consider a single layer of bubble wrap sufficient protection....and dispatch it accordingly. I bought mine from Amazon US - and it arrived within a week in perfect condition. No taxes or duty are levied on books from overseas; so hard to beat really.

Fantastic book, beautful and wonderfully done.

Esta é uma obra fantástica a um preço muito bom. Para aqueles que buscam um panorama da arquitetura do fim do século XIX início do século XX. Os ensaios fotográficos também são um bom diferencial e pode interessar muito aos apreciadores de fotografias pois os motivos, luz e ângulos são bem interessantes. Há fotos realmente magníficas. O livro, infelizmente, aborda apenas o cenário europeu. Deixa de lado a América. No Brasil também temos excelentes motivos arquitetônicos deste período. Mas vale cada centavo. Deve ter pelo menos uns 10Kg de material no formato XXL tradicional da Taschen.
