The Rolling Stones on the BBC
A very informative book on The Rolling Stones on the BBC. Traces the band’s history while appearing on radio and television during the 1960’s. Highly recommended.

Love the insight as to the political games played by the BBC at that time in 1965. This book takes a specific look at the Stones at their inception through the camera lenses as well as through the speakers on the radio. Compelling read

Britain turns the world on to American Blues .
Great stuff from the original Stones . I got the CD and the book and thoroughly enjoyed them both . The Stones really we’re champions of the blues and introduced this great music to white boys like me all over the world . I was also a great Beatles fan and they too were champions of American black music but more the pop / RnB style . I first heard Chuck Berry via these two great English bands .

GREAT CD and book
GREAT CD and book! The music is a return to the early 60’s when the Stones played the blues in hundreds of clubs in the UK, and then expanded to the rest of the world!

NICE PHOTOS, EPHEMERA PLUS TEXT--BUT SOME INACCURATE INFORMATION.
"I hope they don't think we're a rock 'n' roll outfit." Mick Jagger's first words in the press on getting a stand-in gig at the Marquee Club, 1962."Parents do not like the Rolling Stones. They do not want their sons to grow up like them; they do no want their daughters to marry them." Evening Standard, 1964."...they were a fantastic sight, with hip-movements and wear-what-you-like clothes." NME, 1964."faces of today: sounds of tomorrowspots, not gauze, and peepers of truthan audience in a sea of fearfor big daddy doesn't relate any morethis does: so float into tomorrowOut Now!""(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"b/w "The Spider and the Fly"Decca Records ad, '65"Oh yes. We are hoping to make several appearances shortly from our wheelchairs." Mick Jagger, 1968.Be careful if you're looking for very accurate, complete song lists. But this book is a visual treat for Stones fans. A nice looking book (with that sealed "new book" smell) with a lot of photos (some will be familiar) and other (if you're a deep Stones fan) interesting period artifacts. The chapters are laid out chronologically with an Introduction that helps put this era in better focus. There's an Index and a list of selected 1964-1969 TV/radio appearances included throughout the book. This book, I would think, is aimed at those fans (like me) who purchased "The Rolling Stones All The Songs" tome a while back, or aimed at fans who want a good visual record of the band in those yearsBut unfortunately the information is not completely accurate (1964 for example) regarding what songs the Stones performed on what show. And similar to the "...All The Songs" book (which also has some incorrect information) and while we're at it, similar books on The Beatles' recordings which include some inaccuracies, this book on the Stones has even more worthwhile graphics (virtually every page has something to see) and some good, interesting information in the text. The combination makes this book well worth perusing or sitting down to read from '64 to '69, and elevates this book to a worthy addition to fan's shelves of Stones books. But I can't believe in this day and age that more accurate information can't be found somewhere and incorporated into the book, especially a book that purports to be something of a definitive record of the Stones' on air performances during the years included in the book. Personally I was hoping for a discography along the same lines as Johnny Rogan's very extensive lists in his two great books on the Byrds, or something akin to the Grateful Dead concert/set lists that are in book form. This Stones book doesn't approach close to the completeness of those books, which is a disservice to fans wanting accurate complete information from those long ago shows.Maybe the documentation is long gone (if indeed there was any to begin with for some of these shows), but some of the books information was taken (I assume) from existing inaccurate sources. While it's great to see most of the nicely reproduced (on good quality paper stock) b&w and a very few color photos (even the end paper graphics are simple and nicely done) and other ephemera (it's like getting in the "way-back machine", especially if you grew up with the Stones), knowing that the documentation is sometimes inaccurate brings the value of this book down some. Tread carefully if you want complete, accurate, definitive song information, but the text is still of great value to Stones fans because it reeks of that great era. But revel in the photos and ephemera (which are worth the books price) , which will take you back to those times if you were lucky enough to be around then. And I have to say I've been listening to the unofficial 2 CD set "The Rolling Stones-The Complete British Radio Broadcasts 1963-1965" while looking at this book which is a pretty cool combination. This set was taken off the market upon release. But look for an official live set (with slightly improved sound) in Dec. '17 in either a one (18 track) or two CD set--this new release includes tracks from my 2 CD live set on the dodgy sounding label London Calling. But the sound is very decent period sound and the booklet has some good period write ups on the band and period photos. The official 2 CD edition contains 32 tracks--my 2 CD London Calling label release contains 59 tracks--hmmm. The tracks on my set are taken from shows like Saturday Club, Blues In Rhythm, Big Beat, Joe Loss Pop Show, Top Gear, Rhythm and Blues, and Yeh! Yeh!, and cover the years '63 into '65.
