Buy our pattern and look fabulous while lounging. In the late Victorian period, the Smoking Jacket took the place of the banyan as a Gentleman's casual jacket for wear around the house. Virtually unchanged from the 1850s to the 1950s, Lounging Jackets featured shawl collars and double-breasted closures, usually with decorative frogging. Oscar Wilde, Hugh Hefner, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra were famous for wearing smoking jackets. Fred Astaire loved his so much he was buried in it! Our pattern is based on an original tailor's draft from the period and fits chests 34"-54" with instructions for making the pattern fit larger sizes. All sizes are included in one envelope. Embellishment suggestions, historical notes and period tailoring techniques are also included.
