I bought a Ryzen 7600 for use in a new-build media centre PC that would mostly be used for emulation. It is stable, runs very cool and does not consume much power and is mounted into a fairly budget MSI MAG B650M Gaming Plus WIFI motherboard with 32 gb of Lexar Ares 6400mhz DDR5 RAM. I'm only using the in-built graphics capability - and a cheap air cooler, but it performs superbly with everything I've thrown at it so far. I highly recommend this CPU for anyone who wants to get onto the new AM5 platform without breaking the bank. It's a great CPU for this purpose, especially now that B650 motherboards have come down in price a lot. My plan in a few years will be to upgrade the cpu and keep the motherboard, which should be do-able since AM5 will apparently be around for a while yet. Preferred this one over the 7600X as if you need the 'X'tra power you can just turn on precision boost overdrive in the bios which will raise the power limit and give it 7600X like performance while saving a bit of money over the X version.

What is "easy to lock " supposed to mean in the review features? Anyhoo, this CPU has insane, amazing performance as long as you cool it well. Having 8 cores/16 threads capable of boosting to 5500MHz makes such a difference to smooth gaming, but stress it and each core will try to go as fast as it can until it thermally throttles at 95 deg C. Consequently a single tower air cooler will struggle. I was planning to buy the 7700 but the 7700X (very slightly faster but hotter) was £20 cheaper at the time of purchase. I will be undervolting it as I simply dont need that little bit of additional performance at the expense of a lot more heat, but its nice to have it in reserve for the future. There are faster chips on the market for gaming and multitasking - the 7800X3D or the I7-13700K, but honestly I don't render animations or compile code or stream games all day long for a living, and I cannot afford an RTX4090 so getting the very fastest CPU possible is moot. Also, I wanted a clear upgrade path, and buying Intel usually means a new motherboard with each new CPU generation, so I nailed my colours to the AM5 mast this time around. One last tip - when applying your cooling solution, I advise carefully spreading your thermal paste before you place the cold plate or air cooler into position. The AM5 IHS has "legs", and if you make sure your cooler has good thermal contact with the tops of the legs in addition to the centre of the IHS, it can only help keep temps down.

Update below for December 2025! As a software developer this cpu is absolutely perfect, haven’t run into any issues. If I do I will update this later! -Update Using this CPU for a few months now and just to say I am impressed is not enough to describe this CPU, running games that have heavy processor usage and still achieving 250-300fps on a 2k monitor is absolutely phenomenal. Currently under volting of -35 (since it’s a ryzen this is a must! They boost extremely and can cause some high running temperatures) I do believe though I may have one the silicon lottery slightly since I personally have seen others to be undervolting by -25. On a Software developers side the 12 cores are a must, running docker, n8n containers, with multiple local servers and it never hiccups! And the temperatures haven’t risen past 60C! I’m not using some crazy expensive aio either so that also amounts to something! Great bargain!!

Strong processor. no other problems, came quickly the day after I ordered, was easy to put in, so far no issues, functional and is a great CPU for most PC builds, as it's not mega expensive
