Coghlans Back Packers Trowel

It does the job! Not sure what to say about it really. After all, what do you need from a backpackers trowel? It's sharp enough to dig a hole in some fairly tough ground, it's light enough (and compact enough) not to be a nuisance to carry, and it's bright orange so you can't possibly lose it! Also washes very easily when you get home and want to get the muck off. As for durability, it does seem pretty tough and I reckon it will last a while. I'd certainly rather spend less and get a lighter plastic trowel that I have to replace every so often than get a more expensive and heavier one.

Fab little trowel, I bought this for beachcombing. Its really light so it's great for carrying on long walks on the sea shore, and the lovely bright colour makes it easy to spot when I've put it down and walked off. I bought a second one for my other half to use and I would have given 5 stars for these except for one thing - they arrive with a large sticker on the handle which is a nightmare to remove. It's not an easy peel type of sticker, it's the whole "painstakingly scrape the top layer off with your fingernails and then have to deal with the sticky residue" type of sticker. So if you buy this I strongly recommend you get some sticky stuff remover at the same time. Loses a star for the hassle.

Hope to never need to use, but it gives peace of mind. Very light. Feels reasonably strong.

Used this to bury my fecal matter in various scenic spots across the Lake District. It is both sturdy and compact, and fits well in my backpack. It stood up well against the moderately soft heathery and heavy soil on the fells, and is of a good length to dig a deep enough hole. Additionally, the shovel is sharp enough that I could almost 'saw' a hole in the soil, creating a neat soil 'plug' that I could then cover the hole with after having finished my business. Plus points for being a great colour. No complaints at all, 10/10 will use again.

This product is brilliant! Handy little trowel for those who want a lightweight, sturdy outdoor en-suite. The slimline design means it fits into your bag without being too round and bulky, and the hard plastic and almost sharp trowel edge makes this an excellent tool. I was surprised how strong it was - we had a week in the rocky Cairngorms and it did the job for the whole group. Definitely with the money.

Bourght this for my coast to coast hike across the UK. I was planning a lot of wild camping and i was restricted by my budget so could not get a titanium trowl This looked like a good alternative and it worked very well. The trowl is very well built and light weight, A little bulky but not difficult to pack away The toilet roll that comes with it was nice to use and not too thin Unfortunately the trowl cannot cope with any of the tough moreland of the lakes and yorkshire dales and kept bending out of shape. It is reinforced on the back of the blade but this was not enough. I would definitely recommend if you are going to be in an area with sandy soil but not for clay areas or the moors Otherwise great product for the price

Bright and lightweight but I also take a metal trowel camping just in case.

This lightweight trowel is very strong and sharp. I was a little doubtful that it would really handle tougher ground, so I tested it at a spot that wasn't favourable, but was still realistic. The ground was matted and hard packed, and just the sort of situation one might find oneself in when caught short! It doesn't make sense to me to test it on soft, easy ground, since when is that ever likely to really happen? Other than the edge at the very tip being slightly dulled by use, the trowel managed almost incredibly well under some serious strain. Not actually in-credible though - watch the video and see for yourself.
