Would this fit an 8 inch banjo

I didn't use the drumhead on a banjo, I used it on a drum, but I cannot see why the head shouldn't fit the 8" banjo. It is worth buying one, trying it against the banjo without undoing the cellophane wrapper and then returning it if it looks unlikely to fit?

How durable is this drum head?

Ambassadors are really designed for "quality" of tone rather than durability. If you are after durability you might be better off going for a "Remo CS reverse dot" HOWEVER, Ambassador is the usual "go to" snare head for most drummers. Also if you are getting it for a tomtom you might want to look at "Remo Emperor" they are a bit thicker and durable than ambassadors but still give great tone. - Good luck !

what would be the best resonant head to use with this batter?

I'd say the remo ambassador snare side head would be the best, I have that combination on my snare and it sounds great!
