Q: Is it possible to hear sound directly from the iPhone without headphones or amp? I'm thinking of times you want someone to listen but be fairly quiet

don't think so as the iRig plugs directly in to the headphone socket, so it cuts off the internal speakers, you can't 'Bluetooth' the sound either (at least on the iPad), I guess instead of H/phones you could plug in some small external speakers or get a 'Y' plug and use two sets of H/phones. VT.

Q: Can I use this for Instagram live stream? Also if it’s plugged into an audio mixer will you still hear me speaking on the mic on the stream?

Yes, I have used the iRig2 for streaming live audio to instagram through my iphone. I'm a drummer and use the out on my stage P16 with a jack into the iRig2 and then into my iphone. Hope this helps

I am sure it will. You connect via the apple lightning port. I use it with the xr phone and have no latency or other issues. Very good with bias fx app.
