Simply put the best mouse I have ever used
This is a robust, versatile and comfortable mouse Major features for me - better build than Microsoft - comfort and versatility in use - unifying receiver - excellent battery life I've had used umpteen devices since my first pc over 20 years ago. I currently use a laptop and have 2 mice and a keyboard running faultlessly from 1 unifying receiver (M570 trackball, Performance MX mouse, and K360 keyboard). The M570 withstands everything I throw at it - the trackball is securely held in its socket and comes out with gentle coaxing when you eventually need to clean the three mini rollers that hold it in place. I have been very clumsy with this mouse and dropped it on the floor on more times than I remember (more than 20 in over 3 years of use). The mouse has hit the wooden floor with enough force for the trackball to bounce out - but I just put it back in and it is still working perfectly. I have found in general that Logitech mice have better longevity in use. Compared to the Performance MX mouse (which sits on my desk and has different functions assigned to its buttons - done easily with Logitech's software) it is a superior product for comfort and ease of use. The MX may track on glass; but it still requires a surface to operate on and much greater wrist / arm movement to use. The M570 is just easier and more comfortable. Logitech could improve the product by adding the functionality the MX has with scrolling (a button that enables free scrolling). They could also add extra thumb buttons adjacent to the trackball to increase versatility. There are two problems with the mouse : They do not make a left handed version (serious problem for lefties). You have to get used to using your thumb (water off a ducks back with practice).

Fantastic Device
I've had a previous version of the this - a Cordless Trackman Wheel for many years, but recently I made the mistake of putting a cheap battery in it, which leaked and killed it. I was so impressed with the long term reliability of the previous device that when I was looking for a replacement I felt compelled to go for this updated model rather than a different brand or style. I bought it from Pomegranate, with delivery to an Amazon Locker, and it arrived swiftly, brand new, as described. The M570 has lived up to my expectations completely. It's very comfortable, accurate, and feels as durable as my previous version, so I'm confident it will also last for many years. I haven't installed any additional software, just plugged in the discreet USB receiver, and let Windows do the rest. I just use it for the basic functions - moving the cursor, left and right clicking, and scrolling through documents with the wheel. This means the additional buttons (initially programmed for moving the page forward and back while web browsing) are superfluous for me at present, but maybe I'll try making use of them in the future. I've also made no attempt to re-program any buttons, as I've read is possible, maybe with additional software (not included - I assume that's something to download from Logitech). I love the freedom you get from a trackball device. I don't need to worry about what surface I'm going to use, so I can easily move my laptop to a desk, an armchair or even my bed, and not bother about an additional surface to roll a mouse around on. I think that for my purposes - mostly web browsing, document writing and programming - a trackball is ideal. If you are interested in certain games, or other uses that require faster movement around the screen, this is probably not going to suit you, but I can quickly and easily navigate around an extended desktop with no problem at all. Some general points: It comes with a battery (Duracell AA) already fitted and ready to use when you remove the plastic protection tab. It has an on/off switch, unlike my previous Trackman, and that device lasted for months on a single battery so I have high hopes that this will be even more efficient. There's also a little light that briefly flashes green when you switch it on, and I believe it will flash red when the battery is low. Finally, the USB receiver is discreet, as I mentioned before, with less than a centimetre protruding from the socket. You can keep it plugged in and still carry the laptop around with you quite easily, but if you want to remove it for any reason, there is a little slot for it in the battery compartment so that you can avoid the risk of misplacing it. I've been using the M570 for a couple of weeks now and I haven't had a single negative experience. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Great product but takes some getting used to
Decided to make the switch from a standard mouse to the trackball. I have never used one before but as I spend a lot of time using a computer I wanted to try and reduce the likelihood of RSI or CTS. I also wanted to see if they were accurate and easy to use. Well, I am pleased to say that the trackball is fantastic but it does take some practice and getting used to. I still keep trying to move the whole thing instead of just the ball :) Construction is really good and the item doesn't feel cheap. It comes with a wireless USB adapter which is tiny, and if plugged in/out regularly you could easily lose it, but as it's so small you probably wouldn't need to remove it. Just leave it in a spare USB port and away you go. No install CD was needed and it was working in no time. I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bit too so users with newer OS should not have any issue. I would have scored 5/5 but I have only had it a short while so didn't think it was fair to do so just yet. Might come back in 12 months and follow-up on this review.

Amazing convenience
June 2013 - I wonder how did I ever manage without it? I bought this to use with the pc instead of a normal mouse and I found out that it is so much easier to use than anything else, I have no more pain or discomfort when working on the computer. I love it so much I cannot use the laptop without it. The beauty is that it does not need to be used on a flat or even a solid surface, the tracker ball works efficiently on any surface, it is even very easy to use when I use my laptop in bed. I am also impressed with how long life the battery can last. I have been using this tracker ball mouse for eight months for several hours a day and I have not yet needed to change the battery. Oh and I dropped it, accident of course, few times on my hard floor. Although I was worried it got damaged, the tracker ball came off and rolled away, it looked dramatic but all I had to do replace the ball back in its place and start using it straight away, no problems. November 2013 - This amazing tracker ball cannot be any better, I have not yet changed the battery in spite of 16 months of daily heavy use. It is very comfortable and perfect for painful and limited mobility in wrists, hands and fingers. It is the perfect size and the fact that the control is on the side, the thumb will do the mouse pointing job with amazing precision with no effort at all, leaving the painful index and middle fingers to deal with the less demanding buttons in the centre, just perfect. I am ordering another one because my mum, who suffers from arthritis loved it and found it easy to use, she can never use the control panel on the laptop but with this one she got used to it within a couple of minutes. Some people on this site commented that it is small, on the contrary, it is a lot bigger than an ordinary mouse and bigger than other tracker balls, exactly how big do these people want the mouse to be? The way it hugs the palm of the hand makes no odd whether it is small or big, unless of course you have giant size hands. One more thing, contrary to some negative reviews that claimed it is not precise and gets stuck, I did not find this problem at all, neither did my mum when she tried mine, remembering that her hands are a bit clumsy. It works immediately and with great precision, as soon as you insert the dongle, no need for installation and it is easy to take it away with you if you are planning to use a public device, the wireless dongle fits neatly in a slot inside the mouse. I am struggling to find one single fault with this product. I recommend this product for anyone who seeks comfort while working and for anyone who feels their pain and limited mobility is restricting their computer use, this is a liberating tool, go and get it.

Works as advertised.
It's a trackerball mouse. The ball moves, the mouse stays put. Mine is part of my gaming rig, stuck to the side of my chair, where it falls easily to hand. In flight sims it's fun to fly keyboard free- I use pedals, a throttle, a high end joystick and now the trackerball. The ball allows me to select controls within the cockpit that I'd otherwise have to assign keyboard shortcuts to. It's very satisfying to look at a knob or lever and just adjust it on the fly, rather than having to memorise dozens of key strokes to achieve the same thing. It adds to the sense of immersion as well as easing my workload. It works particularly well with head tracking software and VR goggles. As a mouse it's fairly intuitive and will do pretty much everything a regular mouse does. It's worth considering if you have limited desk space or if you're carrying old injuries. My wrist was broken some years ago and I find it much more comfortable than the conventional mouse I have to use in work. I've given the 'battery life' five stars. That might change, the device is brand new! But I'm typing this on a Logitech keyboard and I've used wireless Logitech mice for years. They've all had excellent battery life, I don't see any reason why the trackerball would be any different. If the device does have any problems over the coming years I'll update this review. If there aren't any updates, you can take it that everything worked out just fine for me and my new purchase. Tl;dr. Good product, ideal for my needs.

Best mouse you can buy!!
In my humble opinion, this is the best mouse on the planet!! It's a perfect size for me, the tracking is great and acccurate. the battery lasts a long time. the only issue is that after a lot of use, the little rubber feet part company with the mouse! It doesn't hurt to clean it about once a week either, I use a bamboo toothbrush for this - not a big deal!!

Good for daily tasks, poor for gaming
It seems a little unnecessary to add a review to a product that already has 666 of them (er...) but I'm reviewing this as someone who uses their PC all day every day both for work (as researcher / writer) and play (20+hours a week PC gaming). I've used this mouse exclusively for 6 months and recommend it with a heavy caveat: this is not an all-in-one solution. I was drawn to this mouse after suffering quite severe RSI. I am happy to report that within weeks of use my RSI was completely gone. Gone! I can use this for hours at a time and suffer no ill effects. I have large hands and this is a comfortably large mouse, the batteries last 3+months and for basic tasks like web-browsing I am not at all disappointed. However, I have had to buy a second, wired, mouse for gaming because: - When the trackball gets even slightly dusty it stops working. You have to clean it regularly (far more than any other mouse I've ever used). The ball itself sometimes sticks in the casing and this means you do not always get a smooth operation. If you are simply browsing the web or using Windows this isn't going to be a problem - but when you start gaming it can be a headache. - It is wireless. I often have a laptop / phone next to my PC (my own primitive 'dual screen' setup). This ALWAYS causes the signal to break between my mouse and the receiver and renders it almost entirely unusable unless I regularly unplug the wireless dongle and plug it back in again. In the middle of online gaming this will invariably mean the difference between life and death. 3. The sensitivity is screwy. On games where mouse sensitivity is an issue (e.g. FPS games) you do not want to use a trackball unless you have very, very steady hands. The slightest twitch of your thumb will send your character spiraling. For most games, even with sensitivity lowered in-game and in the Logitech software, you still need to go into the config. file and manually reduce mouse sensitivity. Often I have to keep the Logitech software open so I can reduce and raise mouse sensitivity as I alternate between gaming and browsing. 4. It is inaccurate. When I move my mouse (or trackball) I want to trust it will end up where I want it to go. Mouse operation should be intuitive and after 6 months I still have not found settings that work for me. I've never experienced that with a mouse before and its really disappointing. It means I now only use this for basic tasks. Even then I'll sometimes sweep my cursor across the screen to close a window and end up minimizing it instead. In conclusion, this is not a versatile, 'do everything' mouse, but when coupled with a dedicated gaming mouse this can be used to handle daily tasks and help reduce RSI.
