Buy How Cars Work by Newton, Tom (ISBN: 8601400476932) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Highly recommended. - Our son is due to start college on a mechanics course soon. This book has proved an excellent way to get him thinking about what is to come and to learn some of the terminology. Great book, well illustrated and pitched at the right level for a novice. The only minor criticism is some words are Americanised eg “fender” however there are so few examples of this and the quality of the rest of the book mean this is a very minor point and does not detract from the overall quality. Highly recommended for a curious novice or someone just starting out on mechanical training. Review: Great book, really interesting - If you're interested in learning about cars, but don't know where to start, this can be a great help. It's full of information, it's not massively in depth, but theres enough to learn about cars and how they generally work. It also covers quite a bit of the 'newer' stuff, or what I would consider 'newer', Again, not very in depth, but does brush up on it. Overall a great book IF you're completely new to cars and just want a learn a little. If you're a car guru or you want to become one quickly, this probably isn't the most ideal book for you.

like myself, is learning to drive and would like ...
A very helpful and interesting read! Ideal for anyone who drives, works with cars or, like myself, is learning to drive and would like to know more about how each part of a car works. The information is broken down into easily understandable chapters with diagrams and even a small quiz at the end of each chapter to test your knowledge. Would 100% recommend to anyone interested in maintaining, driving and understanding automotive vehicles.

For the Basics
good book for understanding the basics if your a beginner. bought this book for my 7 year old as he enjoys working on vehicles with me. It is American and parts are named the American way and not the British way but still, a very good booj

Perfect first book!
An excellent book for those first getting into repairing cars. About half a page of writing, plus a diagram, per page is all that's needed. It tells you what each major part does and which other part it connects to. This allows you to see the bigger picture before getting into more depth with other books. Highly recommended for new DIY'ers and pre-apprenticeship teens.

Excellent Introduction
This book is the perfect primer for anyone who needs to understand how cars work. It is very well illustrated, and the text is very easy to follow in conjunction with the illustrations. You are not going to diagnose or service your car straight away after reading this book, but it will ease you into the more advanced texts and give you the vocabulary you need to read them.

If you are new to the subject, this book is a good place to start.
Written for the complete novice, Tom Newton presents the subject in a measured and straightforward style. The book has been written for an American audience so be prepared for references to fenders, hoods and tires. Though none of these terms should cause any great confusion. Worth reading several times for a good grounding in the subject and before progressing to material written for 'grown-ups' - for example, Haynes!

Not just for kids.
Alot of reviews I read for this book said it was great for children and teenagers. Im in my early twenties and wasnt sure it would be too simple for me, but it wasnt. This book is great for anybody hungry for knowledge on cars and has sparked my interest further.

It is a concise book with good illustrations. It is easy to read and the material is written specifically for beginners. I had great service from the seller Ergodebooks. Due to shipping delays concerns because of COVID, Ergodebooks has been following up on the evolution of the shipping process all the way. I would buy from Ergodebooks again.

This book was actually very good at explaining automobiles in an oversimplified yet very clear and concise manner. It included a well-made drawing of each section it was descriptive for each section of a car ( engine , drive train, braking system , etc. etc.) - If you are new to learning automobiles and want to learn the basic foundation , I would absolutely recommend this one. A while back I ordered 3 small books on the subject to start learning , two were AI generated drivel and one was this book - thankfully. Included photo as proof as the other books had AI generated 5 star reviews.

So overpriced! The entire book has only black and white illustrations, that too of sub standard quality. For this price, I definitely expected colour pictures for the parts they were explaining. I would have never paid so much for such a book on the stands! It's the 25th printing and they can't add colour pictures? Looks like a book from 4 decades ago! Don't waste your money.
