no u dont. but u can download the edu app and cod it if u want. but no u can play with it as soon as its charged using the sphero mini app. (2 different apps) its good fun.

Yes. It plugs into the mains with a common USB charging cable. It comes with a short cable for this purpose. You will need a "USB plug" to plug into the mains.
