Mahalo 2016K Soprano Ukulele Koa with Solid Mahogany Top

A beautifully built instrument and the standard strings haven't even come off yet and still sound great (considering I bought the uke over 6 months ago this is brilliant news if you ask me!).Definitely worth the slightly more expensive price tag, you can hear and feel the difference between an £80 ukulele and a £20 one, especially considering it's cedar top and koa back and sides!

I've played some shocking Mahalo instruments in my time, but this is nicely finished. In a satin wood that is nice on the hands and not flaws in the construction. Bit of confusion as to what the back and side wood actually is - says Koa on many sites like this but the mahalo website claims it is something else. Regardless - it's laminate in the back and sides so not actually a tone wood and that outer veneer is for looks only.Looking inside I consider the bracing to be over done which may make for a subdued instrumentSetup wise, mine was terrible - nut and saddle far too high. Thankfully I know how to adjust these, but if you dont, you should beware.Biggest gripe are the tuners - mine have geared tuners (not like on the photo) and they are just far too big, make the ukulele look like it has large ears and are ultra cheap too. They also set the balance of the instrument all wrong and make it neck heavy.Sound wise - not bad, not great - lacking in punch I like with a soprano and that isn't helped by the thick bracing. Passable, but doesn't set me alight
