Q: What is the height of the grater without the storage container?

Q: Can this grater be used WITHOUT THE STORAGE CONTAINER? Because I read several reviews about the slippery nature of the container while grating.

I have used it several times without the storage container. There is a rubber gasket around the base that keeps it in place when using it without the storage container. The rubber on mine is grippy.

Q: can you grate going both ways? IE Up and down?

No. The metal is cut so that it only grates going down.
