Another essential purchase
Stuart Anslow has once again produced a must have book - especially suited to Taekwon-Do (ITF/Chang-Hon in particular as those pattern sets are referred to where the movements occur) but the information contained within will be of use to anybody. If you have purchased any of the authors previous pattern encyclopedia or real applications books (do so if you haven't!) then the format of the book will be familiar, the photographs are clear and the flow of the movements are easy to follow with excellent explanation text to support. The author has referenced the "Habitual Acts Of Violence" which is a widely accepted list of the most likely attacks that happen in the real world, the defences are then organised into sections to deal with each HAOV with several options throughout. In addition tips are given as to how to integrate this into your classes or practice in order to supplement (or replace) your existing self defence/Ho Sin Sul techniques to make them more effective for use.A great book.

Well worth it.
Quite unusual for a Taekwon-Do book to cover self defence from non MA attacks, but this one does. It does relate defences to movements but it would be strange if it didn't. There's lots of alternative defences to common attacks, together with explanations of precursors, fences and the like. Although the target demographic is the TKD community, it's well worth a read for any martial artist. Lots to read and practice, something for everyone.

Insightful, and not just for the TKD community
Very Insightful. This isn't another application of the techniques in patterns book (although arguably everything is really) this really does cover defense against most attacks, from martial arts attacks to "football style kicks" and haymakers.
