Stop Pipes From Banging Noise Preventer Reflex 0.16Ltr Potable Expansion Vessel Shock Arrestor PV016C

As per the title, I installed the unit to stop the water hammer I was experiencing in my home when any cold supply was closed (present from moving in). The sound really was torture.This device initially made the hammer worse - the count of shockwaves increased from one to four, so I intended to return the vessel. Only when I further opened the stop cock, the water hammer disappeared. I isolated the hammer arrestor and re-tested but the hammer returned. Some combination of the arrestor/pressure/restriction fixes the problem, but I am not completely sure how!

The thing is easy to adjust. At first instillation the water hammer could still be heard at high flows. If you take off the screw top, there is a bicycle valve. For ours we let the pressure out and it completely eliminated the water hammer sound at all flows. If you want to re-adjust this you can use bicycle pump to give it what ever pressure you like. Very clever stuff.

I have one of these on the inlet to my combi-boiler, in order to quieten the thud that occurs when the solenoid shuts off rapidly. Works perfectly, and will ensure that the valves in my boiler aren't taxed too much by the high water pressure in my home.I've since also fitted a pressure reducing valve immediately after the stopcock to reduce hammer across the property.

Cannot recommend as it made no difference to the pipes banging.
