I can only speak for myself. Maybe I'm weird, though. I get in the shower and get wet. Then I use a towel to dry off the parts of my body I'm going to scrub. So I'm damp, but not wet. Then rinse in the shower as usual. You probably want to use your body wash afterward, because it has a little bit of an oily feel to it.
