Beginner's Guide to Crochet: 20 crochet projects for beginners

The patterns in the book are UK terminology. Good illustrations and easy to understand explanations of stitches. I’m a beginner but have crocheted from the book the neck cowl and granny square blanket. For both patterns I had to use different ( but similar) wool as I couldn’t find stockists for the wool in the book. I imagine the wools been discontinued?

Just received this book, I've been learning since Feb on Youtube (hooked by Robin) and wanted something that had a list of different stitches that I could refer to. This book is great, it has loads of really nice things to make and explains the patterns along with the written and pictures so it improves your understanding. I've been learning US stitches so I've written over the stiches but I can't wait to get stuck into the projects they look great. The only downside is I would have liked more a page with lots of different stitches and photo examples of them so when you are creating something you can just pick which stitch you would like to use, but it's great for beginners.

Easy to read patterns.

I absolutely love this book. I have quite a few beginner crochet books and have certainly researched a lot of them and this is by far the best, actually I've given up on all the others since getting it. Firstly it is modern and up to date, secondly it is laid out really well in a way that makes sense...learn a stitch, then use it in a project, learn a more complicated stitch, then use it in a project...and so on and so on, and in between each Sarah teaches you all the other bits you need to know about crochet. Thirdly the patterns are so easy to follow and explained so well. Last but certainly not least, I LOVE Sarah's relaxed and jokie style of writing, it's infectious. Her love for crochet is jumping out of the pages you can feel it, but she's irreverent about it all which makes it loads of fun. It encourages you to keep to the point of all this learning a new skill as an adult stuff....to chill out and enjoy making stuff...beautiful stuff that is. I'm working through the book step By step (it's so quick as she makes it SO easy) and have made a couple of things, all gorgeous. I'm most excited about the mahoosive cloud cushion, check it out. Get this book you won't regret it.

I own quite a few crochet books and this is by far my favourite. It contains all of the basics, in UK terms, in an easy to read format. Lots of useful, quick and easy patterns to get you crocheting! I have also bought this as a gift for someone just starting crochet.

Rather bland and the projects within aren't really inspirational or of much use to me personally but the information is understandable for a beginner with clear diagrams and instructions. I think the use of brighter, more colourful yarns used within the book would make the projects more appealing. I know you can use whatever colours you want but the book itself just doesn't entice creativity with the dull colours used within it. As a beginner book it suits it's purpose and most people will find it very useful and fun to work through.

As a complete beginner to crochet this book has been fantastic in helping me get to grips with the different techniques and terminology used. I was able to complete all the projects I wanted to with this book. Although this book explains everything in detail I did find myself looking at the odd youtube video to fully understand a certain technique but this is in no way a criticism just a helpful tip for anyone that likes to see a practical demonstration before attempting something new. A good buy and would 100% recommend for anyone thinking about getting into crochet.

Good book for a beginner with some easy projects to complete

It’s a good book for beginner but in my opinion some explanation not easy to understand. Overall it’s a good purchase to learn some of the basic.

Love this book. Easy to follow directions and easy to understand. The projects are cute and great for beginners. Learned so fast.

Bought this book for my granddaughter who just learned how to crochet. She was happy to receive it.

The book is good but I had trouble deciphering the patterns for some of the projects. I am not a quitter so I worked on the problem skill until I got it right. That can be frustrating for some folks.
