Epic cat door that has worked flawlessly and never failed
I've had this item for three years now and it has worked flawlessly. Programming it to your cat is dead easy, and once programmed, it has opened for my cat every time without fail. I've never had to reprogram it. The battery life is very long, as I only change batteries about once per year. It's very well insulated with no draughts. Nothing has broken and it works just as well as the first day I installed it. Honestly, I can't fault the thing at all. The only thing I could nitpick about is that the installation is as fiddly as any other cat door, but nothing too terrible. I've read the 1-star reviews, but I can honestly say I've not had any of the issues they speak of. One specific 1-star review stated that when the door is set to the "unlock" seting, that it opens freely both ways and any cat can use the door. If the door has been programmed to your cat's microchip, then this is NOT TRUE. In the "unlock" setting, the door opens freely to the outside, but ONLY YOUR CAT will be able to enter back into the house. If you push the door with your hand from the outside (trying to enter the house), the door is locked and will not open. In other words, the "unlock" setting only allows YOUR programmed cat to come and go as it wishes (using the door as if it were a basic 2-way cat flap). It is still locked from the outside if being pushed by anything other than your cat.

Chip operated cat flap
This is the best catflap our two cats could have ever have wished for, no other cats, other than our have access through the door, whatsoever , it's brilliant and what you'll save in food, from feeding the neighbourhood cats will soon pay for itself, so much better than a collar magnetic door, what if another cat had a magnetic collar? Works off the chip the vet put into the cats neck/ ear. 💯 % other cat proof.

Great Cat Flap for Larger Cats — Keeps Out Unwanted Visitors
This cat flap was easy to install and is one of the few models with a longer flap (15cm), which makes a big difference for my 4.5kg domestic shorthair — he can get through comfortably without struggling. It’s very effective at keeping out neighbourhood cats and also helps reduce drafts in the house. The lock system is simple and user-friendly. Registering two cats was a bit fiddly at first, but once set up, the flap worked reliably for both. One small downside is the brown flap door — it can be a bit hard to see through at night. Overall, a solid product that does exactly what it promises — would definitely recommend for multi-cat households or slightly larger cats.

Simple and effective
This is a great flap. I purchased because we had numerous cats coming in our house. I really liked the fact that it would read the cats microchip no collar or tag needed. Although it did confuse our cats initially because they could no longer run through it, it didn't take them long to adjust. They have to get close for it to read the chip. I love that there is a light to warn you if the batteries run low. Good reminder especially if you put it off. I like the plastic used, it cleans much easier than our old one. I was sceptical about it being white, our old one was brown. Also door was in the sun and suspected it may quickly change colour but it hasn't. I had no issue with programming our 3 cats and instructions are very simple and clear, I can get very overwhelmed and frustrated with instructions but these are good and simple to understand and follow. I kept them which was good because I have had a issue with flap suddenly not working. Instructions told me exactly what to try. Unfortunately nothing rectified the issue. Temporarily I left on training mode so they could still use it. I was left feeling little frustrated I love the cat flap but I don't exactly want to buy a new one every year. Luckily as it was under year old and after an email it was replaced. I can also be overwhelmed and frustrated dealing with things like this but it was simple quick and efficient with no fuss. So thank you closer pets. I highly recommend this product even with my issue I don't feel bad about it, these things happen when there are more components than a simple cat flap. I have since moved home and taken it with me. It's now been put in a glass door which looks good

Easy to fot
Best thing that my cat ever had, easy to fit and the chip was easy to program (although the cat didnt like that bit). Batteries last plenty of time and are easy to replace also.

Top class!
This is the fourth brand of cat flap I have purchased in the last week. I am delighted to state it's by far the best and actually does what it's supposed to do. I really can't speak highly enough about it.

the device recognises the cat's microchip rarely and randomly
I cannot understand how this product can be advertised and sold. I tried to programme it before installing it and it worked well. The cat's microchip fires the small black plastic latch, unlocking the door. You only need to push the P button again (there's only one, so there's no space for confusion here). Let me know list the series of problems that, on my view, should be enough for getting the attention of Animal Welfare and UK Cats Protection in particular and ask for this product to be reclaimed. 1. Installation requires a specialist tool (a powerful cutter). Something that I anticipated. Of course, it is not something that anyone can do without this powerful tool. Really frustrating, to the extent that I had to call a builder and pay him for this. I seriously doubt there's an alternative for this 2. The insulation is achieved by a thin black rubber band that you also have to carefully install yourself. It was really difficult, so I did not manage to do it. In any case, it honestly does not make any sense in Northern England 3. The cat's microchip unlocks the door about 10% of the times, in a more or less random way. Sometimes when the cat pushes the door with his nose, sometimes with his paw, usually never at all! 4. I have tried to reprogram it about 10 times now. Changed three sets of batteries. I have bought the best possible set of batteries in the market... Still the light seems to work randomly 5. As you might think (at least this was my though), in the worst case scenario, there will be a way to manually override the automatic system. Well, there is not such thing. The only way to do this would involve breaking the mechanism, I guess. But this option is not contemplated in the instructions, of course. In essence, be careful because chances of having a useless device permanently attached to your door, adding the possibility of rain water coming into your indoor floor, are really high. To me, the most worrying thing is that cats learn that there is no point in trying to get inside through that door, and they will try to find another home. This is obviously too dangerous and the reason why, on my view, these products should not be accepted in the market.

Best I've found
I looked at three different microchip catflaps and this one comes in first by a long way. Fitting is straightforward but be careful to get the holes lined up. Easy to program, though why you have to hold the button for 5 seconds and then wait for 10 seconds is beyond me. Mind you it's 100x easier than the PetPorte where you can pretend to be Neil Armstrong trying to land a lunar module. Installation is relatively easy, though note that the four screws go in from the outside, and bite into the smaller holes in the inner face. A rubber weather seal is provided to keep the outside watertight - well done CatMate! The in-out locking options are easy to use with a simple rotating knob, though I'm not sure why the inner catch needs a recess in the lower door edge as well. There's also a slot on the right hand side of the door which is unexplained. The flap is the best quality of them all, with a reinforced edge, and the dark tinted plastic means your door doesn't look like it has a hole in it. One feature that's not been thought through is the low battery warning. When the battery is low, an LED flashes once every 30 seconds. This means that every day you'd have to stare at the LED for up to 30 seconds to see if it flashes. Are you going to do that? Of course not. Hence the batteries will expire unnoticed and Tiddles will be trapped. CatMate, why not make it beep instead of flash? So much easier! Apart from a few idiosyncrasies, it's a good product and decent value. ETA: Now that the weather has turned colder I can feel much more draft through the brushes on this CatMate than on the non-microchip CatMate I had before. The brushes just aren't quite long enough. I'll see if I can run a strip of something around the inside of the aperture to help it meet more closely. A bit of an oversight.
