When sitting the mental arithmetic test against a fast ticking clock and bosom, the " speed tips" proved vital!!
I feel truly astounded that I have just passed the numeracy test on the first go and all thanks to this efficient little book.If like me, Maths GSCE is a distant memory and you aren't converting decimals into fractions on a daily basis, this book has everything you need to know about which calculations to expect in the test and how to answer them; from interpreting statistical data to multiplying fractions. The author shows you how to breakdown each type calculation and how to answer it, even giving tricks on how to reach the answer by a faster route. When sitting the mental arithmetic test against a fast ticking clock and bosom, these " speed tips" proved vital!!I particularly liked the section with mock exam questions and answers. It really helped me to discover where I was making mistakes and why. It's a small book, so has the advantage of making you not feel overwhelmed when you begin to turn the pages. Before I read and learnt from it, I took the online test just to gauge how much I needed to learn and it came back as a horrifying 28%. Afterwards my score was consistently above 75% . So before you know it you too have become an expert in scales and ratios and ready to head off to that test!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED teaching tool and good luck!!

Passed first time
The maths test was my nemesis. I genuinely thought that this was going to stop me from becoming a teacher. However, despite my maths terror, this book gave me the tips to nail the mental maths side of the test. The book covers all of the basics, as well as 'reminding' you about how to interpret data from things like box whisker graphs. It also has mock tests - a brilliant addition to the DoE's mock tests. Before this book, I was averagely scoring 50-64%; after revising with it, I was scoring 70-96%. With a lot of revision and practice, I passed first time. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone suffering from palpitations from the thought about the maths test.

This was one of two books I bought and by far the most useful for me
Having just sat my QTS numeracy test and passed first time I felt this book deserved a review. I have never been confident with numbers and, as a mature career change teacher-to-be, the thought of having to pass the exam was extremely worrying; I had forgotten how to do even the simplest of sums. Looking at the practice paper they had even invented new maths since my day (box and whisker graphs - panic, never seen them before in my life!).This was one of two books I bought and by far the most useful for me. Whereas the other book assumed a certain level of competence with the basics, this one took nothing for granted so I was able to take it back to the start. By the end I felt more confident than I did when I struggled to get a C at 'O' level!Having been through the process, I think if you have a degree of competence then you should be able to get by just using the on-line practice papers and accompanying DforE guidelines but if, like me, the very thought leaves you in a cold sweat then I would not hesitate to recommend this book.Thank you Mr Nasser!

You don't need it.
I passed. Look, in reality this test isn't remotely as hard as you're thinking it is. I'd suggest you take a step back and consider if you genuinely need this book or whether you just lack confidence in your mathematical ability (in which case there are a variety of free ways in which you can improve).I didn't need this book but buying it gave me some sense of comfort and in the end I got where I needed to. I'll say it one more time - this test isn't as difficult as you're building it up to be. Buy the book if you want to, I just don't think you need it.
