Holds reed on mouthpiece. Simple & effective.
Everyone should have a fabric ligature. This model or one of it’s cousins, the Dark or Light. They’re a must when trialling a mouthpiece and their simplicity makes them very reliable. They just work and are quick to put on…adjusting your mouthpiece on the fly is no issue. I always have one in the case. The MKIII offers something more robust than the Dark or Light Rovners. It’s sturdier and feels like it has a firmer grip on the reed. It does…there are two extra flaps of material stuck to the inside of the ligature that sit against the reed, with a narrow strip of exposed fabric between them. This allows for a firmer pressure on the reed stock than the Dark or light. It needs to ‘break in’ a bit because it starts off very rigid and you’ll need to position it on the mouthpiece carefully a few times before it settles. This doesn’t take long and is worth the effort!I own an embarrassing number of ligatures and I always come back to the rovner fabric range, the MKIII being my preference. You can’t go wrong…highly recommended.

seems very pricey to me but I expect it to last a long time. worth it I guess.
I'm a total novice when it comes to sax. However I've put on this ligature and it seems to be very good.. much better than the one supplied with the sax. I've also got a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece too on the sax and they work well together. With a RICO 2.5 reed. As my playing improves I'll appreciate the ligature more..

Brilliant product! Definitely recommend!
I got this ligature and matched it with a selmer ebonite mouthpiece. I do a combination of jazz and classical styles so this lig is great for all round playing. Produces a really full broad sound and improves tone quality, would recommend!

Good ligature upgrade
Bought this to replace the flimsy metal ligature that came with the saxophone. It felt easier to play and the reed feels far more secure to the mouthpiece.

Holy Mackerel Amazing
A super dark tone for all those Bee Bop fans. Great product.

Robust and holds the reed securely.
I am pleased with my purchase. It does its job well, (to my satisfaction, at least). If I needed another ligature, I would feel confident to choose another Rovner ligature again.

Warm sound
Use with Select jazz 6M which it fits nicely, gives a warm broad tone and looks cool as well.

Comparing Rovner Classic Dark 1RL to MK III C1RL
COMPARING ROVNER CLASSIC DARK 1RL TO ROVNER MK III C1RLPreviously, the Rovner Classic Dark 1RL was my favorite ligature. It gives the lower notes a deep, bass resonance, although it requires some practice to get nice sounding high notes. In its intended inverted position, it gives a warm, dark sound. Its rubber bands hold the reed firmly, over a wide area, damping unwanted overtones. Re-inverting it to “standard” lig position, gives it a brighter sound, but I personally prefer the darker sound. In this alternate (non-inverted) position, the end rods hold the reed by its edges, leaving the center free to vibrate more.BUT I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE with my new Rovner MK III C1RL ligature. It differs from its predecessor in a couple of ways. The inside of its rubber bands have more of a rough, gripping texture, and they continue all the way around, instead of its predecessor’s large, smooth area where it grips the reed. It has a split in the middle, allowing the two halves of the band to be independent of each other, with a narrow, open channel between them, which seem to let the reed vibrate more naturally. The result is more of an alto sax timbre, with uniform voicing across both the bass and treble notes. It plays effortlessly, without my needing to concentrate hard on getting a good tone from the higher notes. Playing is easier, sounds better, and I can effortlessly play vibratos on all notes. The higher notes are clean, and transitions across those notes cleaner. The MK III is not as dark as the Classic Dark, but the sound is fuller because of more overtones.MY SETUP.Your mileage may vary, because I am playing a mini-sax, which is more of a saxophlute than a horn. I did my comparison on a Key of G All Terrain Tenor Saxophone https://smile.amazon.com/All-Terrain-Tenor-Saxophone-Key-Professional/dp/B018N0YC7U/My setup is a permanent Rico B5 alto mouthpiece, a Légère Studio Cut tenor 1.5 synthetic reed, and of course my new Rovner MK III ligature. The B5 is a narrow MP, so I have a couple of rubber bands around the Rovner MP cap in order to make it fit more snugly. I position the lig at the curve of the reed file, rather than at the ligature marking on the MP. Note that many musicians use a slightly longer than standard reed — a tenor instead of an alto reed, or a baritone rather than a tenor reed. This fills out the lower notes better, and adds flexibility to the reed.BREAK-IN PERIOD.This is an early review, because the Rovner 1RL and the Rovner C1RL ligatures each take a couple of weeks to stretch in and conform to the shape of the mouthpiece. However, I do not expect a significate change because I went through the same break-in period with my old Rovner 1RL. Just remember to tighten the screw before playing.

Good ligature
This is a nice ligature. I got two and I use one on a spare soprano clarinet mouthpiece and the other one I use on my main alto sax mouthpiece. Nothing super fancy with this ligature but it suits my needs.
