6 Gallon Locking Lid Tash Can

Great "old school" product from old, family company. Bought this Behrens 6 gallon can to store bird seed in my garage as the mice and gophers were chewing through the garage door seal and through the plastic seed container previously used. They then setup shop in my RAV4 right on top of the cab air filter, transporting peanuts and bird seed to their new party pad. And jeez, I got to breathe all that! The Behrens lid design is accurate and seals perfectly. The handle is ingenious as t locks the lid down and you swing it up, but the lid stays in place well enough with the handle down, too. Worth it.

I originally bought this bucket and lid to place underneath our kitchen sink to use as a compost bucket. But, it was too big to fit so I've found another use for it. I'm using it as a Faraday Cage for some small electronics I don't want ruined if we get clobbered with an EMP. It's a very sturdy, well made bucket with a tight fitting lid.

We use this as a compost bucket for kitchen garbage. It's a good size, and the handle is sturdy. I left off a star, because it really should have a handle on the lid. It's inconvenient to lift the lid from the edges when your hands are full of broken egg shells.

Purchased this bucket as a poop bin for our dogs. Big enough to hold about two weeks worth of dog cleanup. We keep it outside year round and it definitely has not rusted one bit despite all the rain, snow, and humidity. Love that that the lid has a tight fit so no critters can get in. Would buy again if needed.

Good rust-proof pail for pet food; tight-fitting lid defeats any rodent.

This is a zero-star review. For a "Rust-Proof" can, it sure does rust! I've used this for six months to store dry dog food on my covered porch. It is now headed for the trash (photo attached). It has rusted completely through and is ready to fall apart. You can easily poke your finger through the wall of the can. I've had galvanized trash cans last for forty years or more. This one only lasted a few months. Sorry to leave a zero review, as I like this company and have bought other products from them, but this must have been galvanized improperly. Of course, it's long past the return window. Edited to add: This is generally a great company. I've had a Behrens Oval Washtub that's been used and abused, stored outdoors in the rain, and used for everything under the sun, and it's as sound as the day I got it, about 40 years ago. This can was just a bad batch, I'm sure.

We bought this to store bird food in. We used to store it in plastic 5 gallon buckets with lids, but the squirrels and chipmunks would chew through them and get to the seed. This is very sturdy, and the handle locks the lid down tightly. So far, has been rodent proof and waterproof. I would buy again should the need arise. Oh yeah…. Ours had a handle on the lid so if you didn’t you got ripped. I put silicone on the tabs that attach the handle to the lid to make sure moisture could not get in as we store this outside in the elements.
