TomTom GO 5200 Satellite Navigation System

'Which' recently reviewed this model as a Best Buy so hopefully it will live up to expectations. I'm leaving this review now to flag that not only was none of the accompanying paperwork in English but there was also no English language option on the device. The Lifetime services was also missing. It has taken an hour and forty minutes on the TomTom help line to resolve this which included running several lengthy updates. I've been unable to source this model from any other online retailer in the UK so am pleased it was available through Amazon - however I think that they have a duty to flag with buyers that this is NOT a ready to use product and may challenge those who are not IT-literate.

It does give you lifetime, world maps, speed cameras and TomTom traffic application that works with your smart phone. However when it connected it registered as Go Essentials and not a Go520. Contacted Tomtom and they sorted it in 10minutes. I have now downloaded USA and Canada maps but had the option to add any world map they make. Tomtom Traffic only works in Europe but looks very comprehensive. It was quick to connect to my home WIFI and updated its system and Europe map quite quickly and within two hours was all set up. The Europe map is for 48 European countries. You get the Go 520, a car charger cable, a USB charger cable and a screen mount. You do not get a home doc or a manual in English. Its easy to find an English PDF for the 520 on-line. It takes a Micro SDHC up to 32GB and you will need this to download any other maps. The English manual lists lots of other functions including music streaming these do not work on this model. So you get a Satnav that updates over your home wireless network, Lifetime world maps, speed cameras and European Traffic. Amazing value.

As an Airport transfer company, I need the best navigation system available to guide me around the accident’s traffic jams and road closures around the country to various Airport’s to be able to make sure that my customers get to and from their homes and Airports in time to catch their flight’s.I always used ‘Tom Tom’ navigation systems for the last 15 years. I’ve found them to be the best. I’ve used the TomTom Go 6100 in my Minibus for the last couple of years without any problems at all.So, when I bought a Mercedes and looked for another TomTom to put in there I wanted their latest offering which was the TomTom Go 6200 wi-fi, and initially I was more than happy with it. Unfortunately, high tech comes with a price, both financially and with reliability.I’m now on my third TomTom Go 6200 wi-fi within a year, luckily having purchased them through Amazon I don’t have any worries about getting them replaced within a couple of days when they become faulty.I bought the first TomTom Go 6200 wi-fi on 5th June 2017 by the 22nd June I had to have it replaced as it just froze up for a few days. The replacement lasted longer, on the 25th April 2018 that also suddenly froze up with a blank screen and Amazon sent me yet another replacement. I kept checking to see if would come to life and after I received the replacement a few days later it did indeed come back from the dead, however I lost confidence with it and still need to return it.I’m hoping that they’ve ironed out the bugs on this incredible piece of kit and that this is the one.

Excellent product...once it is up and working. Upon opening the box, I found that there were no instructions in English included - despite the blurb on the box itself being in English. After downloading English instructions, I still had to guess what to press on first start up because no options were in English, and then I discovered that English computer voices are not included. However, a call to customer services got the female voice installed for me and the person I spoke to was very helpful and friendly. After further playing with menus on the TomTom, I discovered that I had not being given the male English computer voice. A post on the forums later got this sorted for me very quickly, but it shouldn't be this inconvenient to get a product bought in the UK to use English voices - I assume that TomTom perhaps have to pay per voice installed, but it does make the initial set up and use a lot more time consuming than necessary.Since then, I have tested the TomTom GO 6200 for journeys to and from work and it has performed flawlessly. I am very happy with the end product, but feel that the initial experience could be improved.

A much better SatNav than the Garmin unit it has replaced. However, there was an initial problem regarding the language settings in that the voice control would not work as the correct UK computer voice was not installed. However, I just raised a support request to TomTom indicating the issue and they very quickly added the correct Serena voice for me to download and install to my device. So now I have a great fully functional unit that was also available at a great price from Amazon Warehouse Deals. The WiFi connectivity makes the device very easy to update as no PC is required to support the update process.

First problem was - there were no instructions in English! luckily my French is ok, and I have had a similar model before, (until I dropped it), so I was familiar with its display and set up. Next problem, it is supposed to connect to the internet, for downloads etc. parked outside my house, tried to connect it to my home link, it wouldn't/couldn't connect. Not given it another shot at that as I've better things to do than sit in a hot car watching devices ignore each other. Hope it will connect at some point. Think the problem is with Tom-Tom rather than the supplier. Sending me a set with no English instructions might be laid at his door though.

Waste absolutely waste or learn European languages for using in UK.
