Yamaha C80 Full Size Classical Guitar - Natural

I bought this for my husband who wanted to start learning to play. I have already an expensive guitar which I have played for years. I was very surprised to find the Yamaha C80 easy to play and with such a smooth and rich sound.

Great beginners Guitar, but you will outgrow it.

I gave five star for this, but it does not mean that I know everything to make an assessment and comparison about this type of instruments. However, I can say that I enjoy every other day practising with it. I am pleased buying it.

This is an excellent guitar for beginners and intermediate players. I have had mine for around two years since I began playing again after a twenty year break. I would recommend anyone purchasing the C80 to replace the in-box strings with something better (D'Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte Normal are perfect) before judging this guitar. The in-box strings are fine to get started, but lack brightness and could disappoint. A change of strings will make this seem like a totally different instrument. I believe the action at the twelfth fret could do with being a fraction lower - a personal choice -, but at the head it is perfect. As you progress to using more of the fretboard you may consider having the bridge lowered by 1mm to bring the action down slightly (0.5mm). If you have played an electric or steel string acoustic guitar, you may be surprised by the higher action of a classical guitar. However, rest assured this is correct - nylon strings have an amplitude much more than steel strings and so need this extra height to prevent buzzing. Take a look at Michael Lucarelli playing Malaguena on YouTube to get an idea of how much string movement there is on a classical guitar. At home we have two C80's (the other is my wife's), and I have noticed each sounds somewhat different. One is certainly slightly brighter than the other, but the difference is small and both perform very well. For me, the only slight downside is the gold-effect machine head. The 'gold' looks a bit tacky to my eye, but the machine head works smoothly. If any of the strings are 'jumping' when tuning up, you should check the nut for contaminants or worn strings. A bit (and I mean the tiniest amount) of candle wax in the string channel when changing the strings will work wonders in preventing jumps. With progress, you will eventually outgrow the C80, but that should be at least three years away. At the end of that time, you should easily be able to sell it on to another beginner.

I recommend it. It has a perfect sounds with a good feeling. I had before c70 for more than 5 years and now I've bought it and it sounds very clear and nice.
