Descender Volume 1: Tin Stars (DESCENDER TP)

My favourite new release of 2015
An instantly gripping and beautifully painted classic. I had almost accepted that no brand new, out of the gate series would delight me this much ever again and I was thrilled with Descender. TIM-21 and his disjointed soon-to-be family of random rogues and rusty robots seem destined to become beloved the world over. One of those comic book adventures you hope never gets translated to screen, for fear of losing something in that translation. Lovers of sci-fi, future shock stories, hell even Harry Potter fans should get a kick out of this. Masterfully painted pages and a beautiful poetic lilt to the dialogue, I cannot wait for volume 2. Huge congratulations to the creative team and more so to anyone who gives this lovely book a shot. Cannot recommend it enough.

Looks pretty but lacks depth
This graphic novel was recommended by a booktuber I generally share tastes with. I went into this knowing very little. I enjoyed the art style and the basic premise of the story. However, the characters, world and plot were dull, forgettable and lacked interest for me.

Pleasantly Surprised
When I first picked this up I wasn't immediately sold on the artwork, but it has really grown on me. The subtleties in Nguyen's watercolours is absolutely brilliant. I don't remember reading another book as slowly just to gaze at the panels. This is also my first Lemire book and like the art I have been very impressed. His flashbacks driven story is spot on. Looking forward to reading more from him.

Interesting Start
In Descender vol. 1 Jeff Lemire begins to bring you into his wonderfully realised science-fiction universe. Dustin Nguyen's watercolours help to make the world feel unique and set Descender apart from the majority of comic book art, however at times it can seem more like concept sketches than the finished art. The story is just starting to get its hooks into you as the volume ends. I'm certainly interested to read the next instalment.

Loved it
I'm not usually into sci-fi but I really enjoyed this one. I'm definitely going to continue with the series. The art style, in my opinion, is very beautiful.

Pleasantly Surprised.
This is my first image novel outside of the walking dead volumes,Id like to say that i was surprised at how i couldn't stop reading it. Ive Instantly fell in love with the characters and i and really excited to see how they will all expand in the future.I am about to begin vol. #2 as soon as ive submitted this review.Would be interesting to see how it would hold its self from a live action perspective too as ive read that sony acquired the movie rights when vol. #1 came out.Time will tell.

A true odyssey for any fan of science fiction
An entertaining start to a series that looks to have a promising future, featuring sketchy vibrant artwork and an intrinsic plot line following a young robot and the adventure and mystery he encounters as he awakes to a troubled galaxy, filled with space thugs and villains, bent on destroying him. Honestly speaking, this book is a must-have for any fan of true science fiction and amongst the most promising series this year.

Not for me
Not a fan of the style of the artwork in the graphic novel, Decent storyline but I struggled with the artwork on screen, maybe if I had a paper copy it would be different, don't think graphic novel are for me.
