Super Gut: A Four-Week Plan to Reprogram Your Microbiome, Restore Health, and Lose Weight Review: game changer for health and wellness, just focus on your microbiome before all else - I am big on supplements, always have been. But one thing I rarely bothered with has been probiotics. I just figured I didnt need them as my poops(I have dogs, I love that word) have been fine. I get lots of fiber. But at some point within this year i began sniffing around probiotic supplements. I was drawn to them after trying to figure out some health stuff. I eventually made my way over to this book. I have learned A LOT. Between this book, and watching a lot of YT videos, I have come away with a greater understanding of just how important probiotics are, that there are different types of probiotics and different strains of each. That probiotics NEED prebiotics to feed from. That probiotics are truly the foundation to our overall health and sense of wellness. AND THAT, if no other supplements it is PROBIOTICS I should be focusing on. They moved to the top of my list. Forget (nearly) all else unless my body microbiome is in good shape. I KNEW THIS on some level, but did not fully put the pieces together. Between mental health and physical health, the microbiome-- all the critters that live in us-- seems to be steering the ship. We treat them well, and they do wonderful things for us. I knew all health begins in the gut, but this info just made it make sense and put it into explanations that helped me see the how and why. I was like, AH HA, I was onto something and now I have solid info to work from. Now when I think of everything wrong with me, everything right with me, and I learn of others ailments and such. I wonder.. how is their microbiome? Drink that kombucha, eat FERMENTED foods, make your own yogurt (easy peasy), pop those capsules! Now all that being said, I dont drop everything that I am doing and just follow what one person says. I have not adopted the "wheat belly" protocol of his (Have yet to read but understand it enough), nor have I made any major changes. Diet and activity level are the same (but more on that later). I just started increasing consumption of probiotics (all sorts, various strains, daily), prebiotics (foods, supplements), and started dabbling in fermented foods and making my own yogurt (L. reuteri). I have only barely begin with making my own yogurt, uh hem, cultured dairy product.. but I am all in. Just search for videos on this particular probiotic, and it will likely make you want to take these probiotics and maybe make your own super charged yogurt. I also really like akkermansia, gasseri, and a few others. In the relatively short period of time that i have been consistently taking a variety of probiotics, there have been changes to my microbiome. I know it because I have a couple of measurable factors. One is which is my oral flora. SOMETHING has changed because I went from life long issues (despite OCD level hygiene) to having entirely normal dental situation. DECADES of always at or on the cusp of bad things. So much so that I get checked out by dentist every 3-4 months since i was a teen (now late 40s). My last visit we scheduled a "deep cleaning" (mega scraping deep under gums). So, just after that, maybe within a month, I happened to start probiotics. Mostly Previtalize and Provitalize plus I added in Akkermansia, and my beloved reuteri , and sometimes others. I actually STOPPED using listerine, and flouride toothpastes (im not against flouride, it does different things than what I am looking for at this time), and swapped to hydroxapatite based toothpaste (I had used that before, so Know just that changes hasnt made the impact). I did stop the other two things because I wanted to give my mouth a break from antibacterial type products. I wanted something that would help good bacteria and not wipe it out. But that has been VERY recent so again, not enough impact, yet probably helped. Then I just had my appointment. EXCEPT, as they began their exam the changes were so noticeable (through imaging, tools, and visual hands on) that the "deep clean" wasAborted. NO tartar (can you imagine?), not even plaque. Healthy gums, tight gums. They said, "I'm looking at someone with a very healthy mouth". Then proceeded to ask what I was doing different. I had to bring up intense intentional probiotic use. They were on board with my holistic approach. OK, other changes. I feel more alive, and less--Anxious. Energy? definitely a lift. Not bouncing off the walls, but not flat out on the couch. I have a little more oomph. That'll take time, especially as I am severely overweight. Oddly, I am already fairly active and eat well. I just eat a lot. Speaking of, I didnt set out to lose weight, and so I have no measurable data for that. But I see a change in my belly. It has deflated some. I can see it in my face too. Maybe that is what sort of started this all. I see all this GLP-1 use, and I dont want to look like how some of my friends do after being on it for some time (shots). They are thinner, but they are haggard. Like the life is being suckedOut of them with each pound. Very startling. Then I learned that GLP-1 naturally occurs in body and that there are ways to support it, to help it make more. There are many things, but one of those happen to be the PROBIOTIC akkermansia. From there on out I just sought to learn more and more. Which the algorithm of YT brought me content from and about Dr Davis. Very accessible, very straightforward, feel like I could have a great convo with him as he seems that approachable and affable. Few spots I question, but otherwise has been good info for me. I intially read this through Kindle Unlimited, then found myself wanting a hard copy to refer back to. So I bought it and here I am. Maybe I will add more info as I experience more. Good bad or not. But really, read the book but perhaps watch a bunch of YT vids to see if it is something of interest (it should be!). Marys Nest has a great interview with him. Review: Fast and informational read! - So much detail and pertinent information to healing our gut! Great read!!!

Dr. Davis work is life changing for those of us who suffer from antibiotic hell.
I watched a couple of YouTube videos from Dr. Davis and ordered the yogurt sachet's and the book. I have been eating his yogurt daily for just four weeks now and I can tell a difference in my digestion/bowel movements already. I have been on and off antibiotics my whole life for UTI's. I am eager to heal my gut. The book is easy to read. I read with a yellow high lighter to highlight the important parts and the almost the whole book is high lighted. I appreciate how he gets technical and breaks down how digestion works and the reason for SIBO. Learning about "endotoxins" and certain bacteria strains is a revelation. What he says makes sense. I have not tried the four week Plan yet, waiting for the New Year to get serious and restrict my diet hard core.

Gut Health is Important!
Really enjoyed the book. But would like the preface the book comes off a little to dramatic IMHO. I referenced one part of the book with a family member that is a radiologist and they said it isn't nearly as numerous as the part he mentions (fecalization), but it does happen. That being said, we all do need to work on our guts, which affect the whole body. Really like that he provides a lot of steps, information and recipes to use on the journey to recover your gut microbiome. Been making lot of super 'yogurts' with my new Ultimate Yogurt Maker, eating and making fermented foods and other ideas he suggest. Already in good shape and health for the most part, so probably not going to see anything dramatic in my case. But if want to stay healthy as get even older, need to do this! It's not like the Food Industry or FDA is going help us. This is something YOU have to do and they are fighting you all the way with enticing ads and products to hit you in the weak spots. This book, even though a little over the top, is a great way to start.

Amazing information, but badly structured and repetitive.
Positives: Eye opening information. I am half way through this journey and my healing is progressing nicely. Negatives: The book is badly structured, repetitive, to the point that I needed to write out a complete summary, and from that put together an action plan. I would recommend they create an updated version, streamlined, and not repeat things ad-nauseum. Nonetheless, would buy it again.

Recipes to correct SIBO. Nicely written.
According to the author, Dr. William Davis, many people have colon bacteria that has crept up to the small intestine and causes many ailments. Most of the time it can easily be corrected by following his simple steps that he outlined in the book. There are recipes and meal planner as an example to get you started. Yogurt recipes with particular bacteria strains must be used. I got them on AMAZON. You need a yogurt maker or Instant Pot with a sous vide or yogurt setting. I use the low on the yogurt setting and sous vide allows temperature and time to be set. Use half and half. You need inulin - I use Anthony 's. Some may not work well. Wash and rinse with non chlorinated water. I have a filter on a well. Mix well and por into a quart container. I used an instant pot and a $29 maker on Amazon. Set for less than 104 deg F or low and for 36 hours. It isn't about yogurt, but about getting large bacteria counts to counter SIBO or to just maintain gut bacteria. He suggests taking some supplements when you go off of WHEAT. Wheat has bad outcomes for health. Gluten has a molecule that binds with the opiate receptors in the brain making you hungry. Full of reasons, benefits and methodology in an easy to read book.

A very useful book to help restore the gut micro-biome to a healthy balance; 70-80% of our immune system stems from the gut micro-biome and it is essential to maintain this via a good diet.

A masterpiece/triumph beyond any words. Never in my wildest dreams, I dreamt that I would find—by serendipity—a seminal treatise of such magnitude as this book in particular that contained—in one place—all the information I desperately was seeking about the gut—with everything that related to it—in the long run; but, never could find in one place—anywhere. For the life of me, I just cannot put this book down and leave it alone for awhile! I had to wait 40+ years for this book of Biblical proportion and beyond to appear from nowhere in my humble life! I can now fully understand how gut-brain pathway is so vital/important to our overall health and outlook toward our lives especially during these difficult times—ie, post COVID, and beyond. Thank you so much Dr Davis for sharing your timeless cutting-edge knowledge and wisdom with us. You are a man of honour; and then some. The information about SIBO/SIFO/FODMAP/IBS/IBD/Microbiota etc in this book is absolutely invaluable beyond anything that I had hoped for to find anywhere, at any time. It has changed my outlook toward life forever. It has given new dimension/hope/tools that I was not aware of before this book that existed out there somewhere unreachable. Gut health and the Microbiome/Microbiota are THE new frontiers in medicine and beyond to get excited about in the long run. Dr Davis, I—for one—salute and offer you my profound gratitude/appreciation for giving us your priceless G. I. F. T. The timing of the release of this book during these unpredictable/painful times in our lives nowadays could not have been any better. Just perfect—if I may say so. Thank you. Greatly appreciated your sense of humour throughout the pages of this book. Thank you again. You are a person of the highest integrity and conviction. Your incredible book has taken my breath away that I had never before imagined. I cannot thank you enough for the vital information you have shared with us herewith. Similarly, I cannot wait long enough for your next book—whenever that may suddenly appear in my life as well! In closing, I send you love, peace, tasty food, incredible yoghurt, forever health, and all the green lights going forward. You have inspired me beyond any word that I could possibly muster here. Thank you so much. Stay safe forever, ;^o
