Very good receiver, lots of fun.
I already owned the ATS25X1 and this ATS25 Max is even better. The data encoder feels great and this one takes two clicks before the frequency changes 1 khz so if you bump it you're still on frequency. It has a green charging indicator LED instead of red which turns off when fully charged.I use it mainly for SSB reception on the ham bands and a little shortwave. You will definitely want an external antenna. I also recommend getting a BNC connector with binding post. This makes it easy to experiment with various antenna and ground connections. The top and bottom halves of the case are aluminum but the front and back panels are a fiberglass like circuit board material. If you really want to reduce noise and hear weaker stations, I highly recommend to connect of a top and bottom case screw to the base of the BNC connector as I show in the attached photo. I used a couple of small thin ring terminals to go under the screws and then snipped a few strands out of the other end to make it smaller, twisted and put under the nut and ring where the BNC connector comes out of the backup the radio.I stripped a 50-ft cat5 cable which gave me four twisted pairs of small, flexible, easy to work with wire. I took one of the pair and stripped about 1 inch of the wire each end then twisted each end together and it works great. Sometimes I just lay it out on top of some Holly bushes and other times I tie a nut to one end for some weight and throw it over a tree limb letting the weight fall to within a couple of feet of the ground and stretching the other end over to a wooden picnic table. This gives me an inverted v-shape and also works well. At home I ran one of the twisted pairs near my ceiling from the den to the bedroom. Now. I can clip on to either end and get good reception indoors.I ordered the Max and that's what it says on the front panel but it has Max decoder on the rear panel and also the Wi-Fi antenna jack. I've read online that the circuit board is the max decoder and you can update the firmware and take advantage of this, but I probably won't bother. This radio is a experimenter's dream and very fun to tinker with. It seems a little better quality and I will buy from SDRGEEK again.

Tnny sound but cool
This is a fun product and ia a Digital version of old time “listening station” radios. Use this with headphones…. And have antennas availableAnd it will provide satisfactory service.

Great bang for the buck. Fun and useful.
I bought this after seeing how a friend's didn't fold up in the presence of a broadcast transmitter (antenna disconnected.) The book was useless for me as the print was too small, but after playing with the menus a little I found my way around easily. When not using it at work, I just have fun with it. Sensitivity OK, but it's a champ with an external antenna. The audio is what you'd expect from a small metal box, but actually it does have great clarity. Better with headphones. I really love the interface. It's just fun to tune around with and it does feel pretty well built. The knob is solid and smooth unlike some more pricey portables. It won't replace my far more expensive portable for longer term listening, but I'm really please with it as it is. Sometimes it's a little glitchy and needs a reboot, but for the price I can more than live with that. Some may be having trouble because, unlike most receivers, there is an antenna switch in the back that switches between FM rx and MW/SW rx. It's right near the BNC jack.

AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR REVIEW
The workmanship and quality of this SDR receiver are good. Also, the software screens are relatively easy to use and provide reasonable functionality for the price of the unit. However, the RF sensitivity is low and only the strongest signals can be heard above the noise floor using the telescoping antenna provided. The unit was connected to a 43' vertical antenna with an antenna tuner for matching purposes and RF sensitivity showed some improvement but not enough to warrant keeping the unit. Some users may be quite satisfied listening to strong short wave broadcast stations but our need to hear weaker stations during a loss of power scenario requires us to continue our search for a more sensitive unit.

not worth the money
Nothing but an FM radio, not worth the money

Excellent compact receiver.
Bought this unit mainly for shortwave enjoyment. I especially love the scanning feature. The ability to capture stations with a shortwave antenna is strong.

nice little radio.
Fun little radio. I hooked it to a 125 ft wire antenna and monitored many SW and Ham transmissions.

Fun to play with
The radio was developed by radio enthusiasts and I'm one of those. Put a good outdoor antenna on it and you'll be pleased with it.
