Is the series, which chronicles the urban adventures of young Betty Suarez (American Ferrera), the archetypal fish out of water making her way through the cutthroat world of high fashion, a comedy? A nighttime soap opera? A serious drama? Well, yes. There are a lot of other words to describe it--outrageous, flamboyant, tender, absurd, cartoony, poignant, arch, bright, kinetic--but most of all, Ugly Betty remains compulsively watchable because it's entertaining, pure and simple. As ever, the show does a nimble job of simultaneously maintaining multiple plot lines. Some of them last nearly the entire season, like Betty's leaving the family house in Queens to live on her own in a Manhattan apartment, the struggles of Meade Publications, parent company of Mode Magazine (Betty's principal employer), to deal with ongoing financial issues (exacerbated by a major embezzlement sub-plot in mid-season), or the endless power plays involving villainess Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) and various members of the Meade family. Other developments, and there are many, unfold over just a few episodes. Some of the best of these are Betty's re-acquaintance with Kimmie (a perfectly cast Lindsay Lohan), a former high school nemesis whom Betty helps find a job; Betty's membership in the Young Editors Training Program (YETI), which brings her into conflict with Marc (Michael Urie), Wilhelmina's flagrantly gay assistant; numerous Suarez family issues, including father Ignacio's (Tony Plana) heart attack; and, of course, the tangled love lives of Betty and virtually every other character of note. Through it all, Betty is awkward, naive, and hopelessly unhip, but also smart, creative, and sincere; she remains the one beacon of purity in a world where everyone's out to get everyone else. Ugly Betty is beautifully crafted--it's well-written, nicely acted, and deftly edited. One wonders, though, how long it can sustain itself. If Betty finally blossoms into "normality," the show's over; but if the emphasis on cutesy quirks continues, there's sure to be some shark-jumping in the near future. Stay tuned for further developments. --Sam Graham Review: Ugly Betty - Season Three - The Third Season of the amazing show "Ugly Betty" shows even further strengthening of the programme- from the very good Season One, the show improved to be excellent in Season Two and this season returns to be truly amazing. There's brilliant character development this season and the plotlines and ongoing storylines in this season are excellent; with some truly outstanding drama and comedy moments. Following on from the first two seasons, "Ugly Betty" continues the story of New York underdog Betty who dreams of being an editor for a magazine. The show centres around her adventures as the "ugly" and "fat" girl at America's top fashion magazine 'Mode', working with shallow, stick-thin, martini sipping socialites and arrogant, womanizing men. The characterisation remains to be great, and there is some outstanding character developments during this season- especially Mark, Amanda and Justin who are audience favourites- the former infact finally gets a more front-seat role in this season- Mark has been an excellent character since the first episode and this season it feels like he finally gets the screentime and storylines he deserves. With better comedy, improved writing and great storylines, fans of the show are sure to adore this season- and for those who are tempted to mingle with the show, this certainly satisfy those appetites. An excellent season; a brilliant show; and I highly recommend this boxset. Review: The best series so far - Personally speaking, I found this the best series yet as it seemed more humourous than the last two but also had a bit more depth. The relationships between the various characters are further explored allowing us to see nicer or more moralistic characteristics than before. The situations don't seem quite as superficial or at times ridiculous as some of those featured in the previous two series. I particularly enjoyed watching Betty strike out on her own and move into her own apartment in Manhattan and the funny trials and tribulations that brings with it, including a very unexpected flatmate! In addition, Betty gets a few more significant assignments at work which are fun to watch to see how she deals with the inevitable difficult issues which crop up. Mark and Amanda seemed to feature more than in previous series which provides a lot of humour. Most of all I really enjoyed watching the way in which their relationships with Betty 'deepen' slightly becoming as the audio commentary says on one of the episodes 'frenemies'. If you liked the other two series, you will definitely like this one.

Great Series
I love Ugly Betty - it is in a universe all of its own and it quite happy there. Big Fashion and caustic wit galore. I know that the series got progressively less good as it went on but this is still great and wonderful to see again.

Great Follow Up!
I really like this season so far :) The characters are more established and interesting. Betty moves out, Amanda moves in with her. She gets over Henry and Gio. Daniel changes a lot.. Thanks to Molly! Wilhelmina will be Wilhelmina, lol. She's up to no good as always. Betty's family struggles. Great season so far :)

Pretty good!
Not quite up there with 'Boston Legal' but good fun. Watched the entire 4 seasons back to back. Lots of funny and interesting characters and a pretty good story line for a 'comedy'. Will definitely watch again.
