What Happens After Midnight

Fantastic YA Contemporary read! Lots of fun!
Author K.L. Walther knocks it out of the park, yet again! I had a wonderful time following Lily and Tag on a guided tour of memories as they (the Jester and his Fools, including Lily) spend from midnight-until-dawn hiding clues for their Senior Class President to follow in order to recover the stolen yearbooks. Watching what happens next, as they go through the last 2 weeks of senior year, including prom, is lots of fun.Don't miss this one! #NetGalley - I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s.

good book, meh resolution
Would’ve given us a higher review, because I like how it was written and the storyline, but I don’t like how Tagg really took like no accountability for his actions, and the girl took all of it. Kind of just swept over the fact that Tagg knew his girlfriend didn’t like Blair and decided to take a train hours away to go to Blair‘s house and not tell his girlfriend. Idc if that’s your friend or not, that’s sus behavior. Also, it feels racist to like Seinfeld, but not curb your enthusiasm.

Loved this book!
I read this book in two days. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the storyline and seeing lily and Tags relationship rekindle. Perhaps my favorite part was getting to the acknowledgment and finding out the story was based on the authors father stealing his own yearbooks! Such a special book !

Taylor Swift references!!
Bought this for my teenage daughter and didn’t realize that it’s chalk-full of Taylor Swift references. And my daughter is a Swiftie…so…she loved it!!! Has gone back and reread it multiple times and annotated it for all the allusions.

Delivers Fun and Banter, Though Pacing and Character Depth Fall Short
This book was a cute and quick read. It served as a nostalgic adventure for high school seniors on their last hurrah. The story's premise, centered around pulling off an epic prank, added a fun and chaotic element that kept me entertained. However, the pacing felt a bit off at times. The night's events were a little hard to follow, but this chaos also added to the excitement and anxiety of sneaking out at night. One aspect that I felt was lacking was the depth of the characters' relationships. Aside from a few key relationships, such as Lily and Tag and Tag and Alex, I didn't get a strong sense of the dynamics within the group, especially considering they attend a boarding school.Despite these criticisms, "What Happens After Midnight" offers great banter and references, making it an enjoyable read for those seeking something cute and light. The teenage pining, angst, and romance throughout the book had me grinning, adding to its overall charm.

Perfect for YA fans!!
Okay we know I have been on a big KL Walther kick recently so here’s another one! This is her most recent release which is a super fun YA romance. It centers around a girl who goes to a boarding school and gets tapped by the secret “Jester” who plans the senior prank. Except the jester is her ex boyfriend and she doesn’t know until the plan is in motion!I this Walther’s books are perfect for high school readers! It’s so fun that the romances are based off games and moves the plot forward. I wished I had been less busy and could’ve read this one more consistently, which may have influenced my rating. These aren’t 5 stars for me only because I’m a little older than the demographic but I’m sure would be 5 stars for those who are. I gave this one a 3.75 ⭐️ for how fun and cute it was!

Really bad book.
I feel like the writer just stripped off Gilmore Girls and made a very weak plot out of it for this book. I believe that for an untrained person it’ll be a decent book but for me it was just a waste of time and money.

A romantic treasure, full of Swiftie gems and a trove of eloquent moments!
Lily Hopper has grown up at Ames, a boarding school on the Rhode Island coast. Her mother is a teacher there, and they’ve lived on-campus, not too far from the coast, for as long as she can remember. But sometimes Lily wonders if she missed out on the whole “high school experience” by being there and being a faculty child, or “fac brat”—that is, until she gets an invitation from The Jester, a ritual that happens in every Senior class, where a series of pranks are carried out. She’s excited to put her clean image behind her and take part, torpedoed once she realises that The Jester is none other than Taggart Swell, her ex-boyfriend.Lily and Tag were so in love, so much so that she couldn’t ever imagine doing anything without him on the sidelines. But when his popularity blossomed, so did female attention. Not wanting to have to fight for him, Lily let him go, but she still has feelings, of course. And as The Jester arranges a team of pranksters—including friendly faces and close friends of Lily and Tag—it becomes evident that Tag’s feelings haven’t dwindled either. As they dodge moments of almost getting caught and old wounds being reopened, Lily and Tag find themselves taking a trip into the past and everything that went down. But when disaster strikes, Lily and Tag are thrown into trouble—but is it worth it just to find their way back to each other?Overall, What Happens After Midnight was a romantic treasure, full of Swiftie gems and a trove of eloquent moments that made my heart fill with bejewelled joy. K. L. Walther has this enchanting way of making her characters relatable and giving us a romance (and dialogue) that feels genuine and raw. I loved how the story also sort-of tied in to The Summer of Broken Rules with Pravika being in both! Truthfully, this was one of the best books I’ve read all year and I’m already waiting to re-read it again for all the magic feels tenfold. Lily and Tag were a match made in heaven and I loved their story so, so much. I will write anything K. L. Walther publishes forever and always—nothing short of five stars!
