Transfer old Mini DV cassettes to Mac made easy
I initially had 2 issues with audio that were quickly resolved by the incredible response received from Tyler in customer service. He replied at 7:30 pm a couple hours after I sent a request for help on their site.First issue was I wasn’t able to hear any audio when I connected my old Sony HandyCam video recorder to the ClearClick device via S-Video and Red and White audio cables and S-Video using the free OSB software.Solution: MACs security setting was not configured properly on my machine.“ Please quit OBS. Then go to the Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy tab.Look in the list on the left for the microphone and camera settings. Click the microphone option, then click the unlock button at the bottom of the list so you can make changes to those items. Then add the checkmark in the list on the right to OBS so it can have access. Next repeat the steps for the Camera option in the list as well. Then depending on your MacOS version, go to System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Security -> Allow Accessories to connect and change this to “always”Then return to OBS and check the signals again. It is important that OBS is quit/closed before you make these settings.”These instructions solved my first issue.Second issue was I had interference or loud static when recording. Fortunately, Tyler sent me a quick reply which quickly solved this issue as well.“ It is possible that your camcorder only has monaural audio out and you are using a stereo audio cable. If you unplug the Red and White cables one at a time, the buzz should follow one cable if this is the case.”Bingo, it worked.I have finally converted MiniDVs that we have wanted in a digital format for years without spending $$$$$ to have it done for us. Now we can edit and share them more easily. This “To do” is finally crossed off my list. The ClearClick Video2USB device came with incredible service and made the task easy to do on my own.Other reviews referenced excellent support and my experience should give you confidence it wasn’t a fluke.

Use a fast enough computer, and the device works flawlessly.
Some customers have complained that they have had problems with the video portion freezing and then jumping to a later frame while the audio kept being converted. I had that problem with a Windows 10 machine that is about 5 years old running a 7th generation i7 chip. I noticed that it was using 75 to 80% of the CPU. I tried doing the same conversions on a Mac Mini with an M2 chip. That processor is so much faster that the Mac was using between 5 and 6% of the CPU. With the Mac there were no freezes, and the digitizing went flawlessly. The problem is not with the ClearClick device. The problem is with the processor on the computer the converter box is connected to.

Good Customer Support. Adequate performance.
This didn't seem to work at first. I had video, but no audio. It turned out there are a bunch of System Preferences to set on MacOS 15.2 that were initially set wrong. After fiddling around in bull-headed mode, I emailed tech support. After a few back-and-forths and emailing them sample files, they traced the issue and told me what to change in Settings. Voila! Sound and video. This product comes with a license to download OBS, the Open source Broadcast Studio software. OBS is pretty powerful stuff. You only need a small portion of its capabilities to work with this device, but it does the job with good flexibility. If at first you don't get what you need, work with the settings to refine the results.

Best Bang for Your Buck
I used this to digitize hundreds of hours of old inspection videos for my state's sewer system. Many of which contain sensitive, protected historical information that we cannot lose. It was fascinating to see how badly the tapes have degraded over 25 years, but you get what you got with old VHS cassette tapes. There are more expensive and better models out there, but if you are only doing this once, then this is perhaps the best option for the price (especially if taxpayer dollars are paying for it.)

Saved my old home videos!!
I have a bunch of old family videos we recorded over the years. I have vhs tapes, mini-dvi and 8mm. Trying to get all of these copied and saved to my local storage system was something I wanted to do for awhile and after contacting several different outfits that provide this as a service I decided I would save on the high cost of paying someone else and do it myself.I was a bit concerned about how well this would work because I noticed a few negative reviews that talked about it working for a little while and then no longer working again. Thankfully I did not have any issues at all.Connecting this device up is extremely easy. You connect the USB adapter to your PC (either USB-C or use the included adapter to convert it to USB-B) It has 5 inputs, 1 HDMI in, AV in and S Video in. One of my camera's was just AV in and my other was both s video and avi. In both cases the video and sound transferred with no issues. To handle the conversion you will need to download an awesome piece of software called OBS Studio. This is free/open source software and it works very well. I had to adjust the settings to get the audio correct. You can contact OBS Studio support or ClearClick support in the event you run into questions or an issue. Both are very helpful and respond rather quickly.I was able to convert 8- 8mm tapes and 12- mini dvi tapes over to digital. One thing I wish I had done back in the day was purchase cleaning tapes because after sitting for so long my camera's all needed some good cleaning. My next challenge will be converting all of our VHS tapes to digital. This adapter will handle that as well!Great product for the home user that needs to convert their old home videos!
