Great Results with this unit
The unit is basically a plug and play unit that allowed me to connect wirelessly from a router on one floor and a computer on another floor. Very straight forward and it works well. Highly recommended.

Does not work with Windows 8/8.1
Does not appear to work with Windows 8/8.1 as advertised on their site. No driver updates available to resolve issues with frequent disconnects requiring device to be removed and re-inserted into port. Seems to work fine on Windows 7, but my money was wasted.

Good for a year. Then a sudden death.
Worked great ( 5 starts) for one year then went bad (down rating). Dropping connections and signal light goes on/off on the adapter.The Cisco router from Cox has not been changed.Is the expected life for USB wireless adapter one year?For the price, I expected it to last longer. Maybe I need a built in wireless for longer life.

Make sure windows wireless service is running
Bought one of these at the local big box store for an older desktop computer. The installation seemed to go smoothly but the "Genie" icon never appeared in the tray, even though task manager said it was running. Tried with the standalone driver option, but still nothing was working (couldn't see any networks). After poking around, I got windows to prompt me to start the windows wireless service, but the attempt failed. I found it was disabled. To fix, use Win-R to start services.msc, then find WLAN AutoConfig service and set its startup type to automatic and start the service. It would have been nice if the installation software could have recognized this problem. I didn't contact Netgear's technical support, so I don't know how quickly they would have resolved the issue.I haven't experienced any of the dropped connection issues some others have reported but I've only had it in operation for an hour now.Edit: A couple months later, it seemed like the unit was dead. But I checked the WLAN AutoConfig service and found it was again disabled. I'm not sure what caused that, but after fixing it, the unit is working again. Perhaps this is the problem plaguing other reviewers who claim a sudden death.

Small but powerful
My old netgear wore out so we replaced it with this smaller version. It's great!

Hate it.
Do not buy if you're far from modem. On a split level of the top floor, modem on bottom floor. Connection drops constantly, and there are times where I can't get on the internet for an hour or two. Hate it.
