Electronic Chess Board w/Talking Coach
Got this for my grandchildren to learn to play chess. Great product.

Do not buy this product!!
The first product had to be returned because it would not properly start up. It would not do anything but show junk on the display screen. The second product board squares would not respond properly to pressure to make moves. Some squares would not respond at all, some only with repeated vigorous pressure. It was clear that those squares that would respond would soon end up with damaged (torn) surfaces. The makers clearly understood these issues since they provide (useless) advice on how to overcome them.

Nice set
I wanted this set so I could learn to play chess. I still think I’m going to need someone to explain it to me. It does tell you “are you sure you want to do that?” But I’m not sure why it’s telling me that. That’s where I’ll need someone to explain it to me.

This was super fun! Excited to use it!
I am including a video showing how it works, but I'm loving this! I read the quick start guide...which I'd highly recommend. They are very specific and if you follow what they say you'll know what's up. The LCD screen was more of an older style LCD, but still functions well since what you're looking at doesn't need to be super detailed. It mostly keeps track of the game and tells you when/where the computer player is going. The only things that don't come with the game/set are the batteries (4 AA) and a philips screw driver to open the battery loading area. Anyway, great set. They even have compartments at the bottom for info cards, pieces, etc. I'm a fan! If you love chess, or want to teach someone how to play, this is a great idea. It's also a great gift idea for any kids, teens, etc who are just loving chess and have a hard time finding people to play. The computer is kind of funny, because it will sometimes warn you if you're making a bad move. GLad I got this chess set! I'd highly recommend getting it. Just make sure to read the quick start guide so you know what you're doing since the LCD isn't super intuitive.

Super slow like a game from the 80's
Unfortunately this chess board is super old-school and really not what I was expecting. My kids play a lot of chess, most of it is online or on a smartphone app. I thought this might be cool for playing with real physical pieces and having the added bonus of giving some tips on moves and strategies. First of all, the chess pieces are very lightweight plastic and the board is fairly small. Makes it hard to setup and the pieces are just so lightweight and easy to knock over. There are magnets to keep the pieces on the board, but it's not strong and just cheesy. We've had magnetic board games for airplane rides that were stronger than this. Second of all, the "voice" of the man giving you information sounds like some robot from the 80's and speaks so slowly and robotic that it's painful. It's really strange that the maker of this game in 2023 thinks that that is helpful or cool, because it's not. It takes forever for the guy to give you a tip or tell you "be careful", and in that time alone, you could have maybe made 6-7 moves already on an online chess game! Thirdly, the robot opponent has to make moves of course, and it instructs you to move his piece from one square to another. Sometimes it takes a few seconds before he tells you his move, and then you have to pick up his piece, tap the original square and then tap the new square to finish his move. It's super slow and not helpful at all, and if you make a mistake you have to start that process over again. This is really useless and I don't see how it's worth anywhere near $99. Maybe $15-20 for using on a road trip or something, sure. If you have played chess online or on a phone, this will be painful for you to use. Unless you don't own a smartphone or computer, maybe this would be fun for you, but otherwise, do yourself a favor and get a proper and beautiful walnut chess board with weighted carved pieces for in-person games. That's what we ended up doing. Then do your learning games online!
