I love this thing!! It crushes any pill I put in it with ease. Clean up is easy .. Sturdy and well made. The bottom has slip resistant padding. Highly recommend for anyone who has to regularly crush meds.

For context: my dog gets two medications, both of which she hates the taste of. They both come in tablets, one of which is chewable, so I crush that one and put them both into a gel cap so she can have one pill instead of two, and doesn't have to taste either of them. To crush the tablet, I had been using the pill crusher that was available at my local chain drugstore. It requires unscrewing the cap of the device, putting the pill in, then screwing it down to crush the pill. (At this point I would screw and unscrew it several times while trying to shift the pill around inside the device to get it to crush better, but it always came out in grains of various sizes.) Then I would unscrew it again to pour the powder/grains out. I have been able to get the medicine into the gel cap and get it to stay closed, but it has never quite closed down all the way with both pills in there. Today I prepared the next week's worth of pills, using this mortar and pestle crusher for the first time. I love that I don't have to screw and unscrew anything repeatedly; just drop the pill in and crush it, then pour it out. It crushes easily and completely, and much more quickly than the other one. You can see in the photos how much more finely the powder is ground in the gel cap on the right than in the one on the left, which I had prepared with the old crusher. Some other reviewers have complained that the crushed medication sticks to the inside of the mortar, and that you don't get all of the powder out when you pour. This is true, I guess, but not more true of this device than of my old crusher. It may be that since this one is more effective at crushing the pills, more of the medication can stick (since it's actually powder, not big grains) but it's also a lot easier to reach in with my finger and brush the powder off of this smooth surface than it would have been with the jagged, toothy surfaces of the old crusher. I might pick up some kind of brush, like a paintbrush or makeup brush, to help me with brushing the powder out of the mortar. But even without a brush to use, I'm much more pleased with this crusher than the old one. In the photos you can see for yourself that I was able to brush it pretty clean with just my finger. You can also see in the photos that with the medication ground so finely, I can get the gel cap to close farther, which will make these easier for my tiny 7.5 lbs dog to swallow. That's a benefit I hadn't even considered before, but it will make both of our lives just that much easier, even if she doesn't appreciate it as I'm poking my finger down her throat!

This pill crusher is just what I needed after trying many others and just ending up with sore hands! It easily crushes large pills and is very easy to clean! Good quality product at a good price! Definitely will buy another one if I should ever need it!

This is a worthwhile investment for anyone who has to crush pills regularly. It's slip-resistant. The shape is curved and conducive to good grinding. It takes less than two minutes to grind nine pills that used to take me at least six minutes to grind, and this grinds pills to powder, no chips. Not even hard grinding scratches the bowl. It's a good size to work with and plenty large for several medications. The mortar and pestle are both heavy and thick and I have no worries that even the hardest slam or toughest grind will break them. I wasted $10 on a small, plastic pill grinder that hardly did the job, and I returned an electric grinder that did not do the job. An RN recommended a mortar and pestle above everything else. He was right!

A fine small but heavy yet robust little mortar and pestle. Grinding salt, peppercorns, coffee beans, beans, grain, dried herbs, nuts and a bit overboard for medication tablets. Grinds well into smoothness in 5-8 minutes with moderate but not excessive effort except for extended periods of time-say for a marinate or to season a brisket. Capacity is about one dry cup. The soft gripping base rubber pad on the bottom breaks down and degrades very quickly after scrubbing and rinsing just the mortar bowl. Caked on material that doesn’t scrape off soaks or boils off the pestle well enough.

I grind a lot of pills for an aging parent who can't swallow medium and large pills anymore. I tried this after the ceramic burr grinder of 3 years became dull and stopped grinding. it takes about the same time to pound pills as it did to grind them. The mortar and grinder probably retained to same amount of the pills. The mortar is simpler and its efficiency probably won't degrade like the grinder did. 4 stars because the product absolutely crushes pills as advertised. Not 5 stars because of cheap quality. Like other reviews said. It's just concrete poured into a thin metal mold with a super flimsy sliver of cover on the bottom. If your goal is to crush or pulverize pills and you don't care about style points, this will work for you. If you're looking for a high quality product, something that brings joy to your counter top, or something that scores style points while you crush pills, THIS IS NOT IT.

On my second one which had the base break off after 3 years (my fault, I dropped it). Excellent product. Works better than the granite ones, which tend to be harder to clean. I use it to crush a pill for a cat, and then mix it with her food. I recommend using a cosmetic brush (see my photo) to brush the crushed pill powder off the surface of the bowl, since the powder (depending on the pill) will tend to stick. Also, a bit of advice if you use this to crush pills: wear a mask. You do not want to inhale the fine particles of whatever pill you're crushing.

I thought this product will not have the strength to crush the pills I had for my dog, but I read the reviews and decided to give it a go. I am pleased to report that the pills break down easily and do not stick to the bottom of both, as with a stone pestle and mortar. It looks really nice on my kitchen work surface, which is important to me. A really nice quality product.
