Model 900-CUDR. Date on unit: "2023 Apr. 28". Purchased January 18, 2025. Today is June 7 2025. Less than 6 months. Chirping 3 short tones - indicating fault but no light flashing. I replaced the batteries and test. The result: 3 long beeps (twice), 4 short beeps (twice), and then a single chirp with a short flash of the green light. Wait about about a minute, and then I get the 3 chirping short tones again indicating a fault - even with new batteries. Not even 6 months of use. ============================== Update June 18, 2025. I installed an "Energizer E91" into the unit and it is now working without any fault. I had used the cheaper Amazon Basics AA battery, which produced the fault. The unit does say (in the fine print on the back) to use only batteries that are indicated like the "Energizer E91". It was my mistake in marking this as a 1 star review due to use of the wrong battery type. Also, kudos to Kidde customer service who quickly replied with an offer to replace the unit. Because of this, I'm updating the review to 5 stars.

It is easy to install and works perfect

This seems to be a great product. The only thing I would say is that somewhere in the literature it should be made clear that the green "ON" light only flashes once a minute, it is not a steady light like many smoke detectors. Took me a while to figure out that the detector was still operational once I had changed the battery. It would probably help if it flashed more frequently.

I had to buy the same ALARM that I had previously to this one so that I could just snap it in.. It seems to work I guess I don’t know. I clicked it and made a beeping sound, and I almost went deaf.. One time I was grilling some meat on my iron pan and forgot to put the vent n and then also. I forgot to turn the heat down, say burn the meat burn the pan and the damn alarm went off crazy. I thought they were gonna find me $1000 if they say that the fire department fines you if you set off an alarm, but I think that’s only for my hallway. Check your HOA also might be subject to a huge Fine. If you set up the alarm in the hallway, so get one of these so you know, beforehand doesn’t get out of hand.

Smoke detectors and CO2 detectors are a MUST in every home. The value for the three pack was good. Noise level is appropriate to notify anyone in house of an issue. Build quality is good, and easy to install.

Easy to install. For anyone replacing First Alert detectors, these do not use the same mount, so you'll have to replace the existing mounts with the ones that come with these. Our original First Alert detectors were starting to fail after 10 years, so I decided to replace all of them at once. The old ones were hardwired while these have no wires running to them. Since I couldn't use the old mounts, I just put single gang covers on them and mounted these using the included drywall anchors. About a month in, I am completely satisfied with them.
