Brilliant!
We now have 2! Perfect for our 10 year old, you can set parental controls really easily, the screen adds a greater dimension to having an alexa at home. Our 10 year old has it in his room, uses it for his morning alarm, checks the weather daily, audio books at night are a fantastic option for him, learning whilst at rest. It's been all around a very good purchase.Ps. The drop in feature is a fantastic addition, I can dial in from work and have a conversation over camera with him which is a beautiful feature.

Don't purchase
Awful product. Just doesn't work. We have the non-child Show 5 and it's a bit flakey at times, but generally usable. The kids' version is a software mess. Keeps switching itself off, doesn't follow simple commands, keeps freezing, the screen switches itself off when you're trying to find something. My daughter has learnt that the first time you ask to view the book library, the screen will go off. The second time you ask, the library will appear but in place of the books, empty spaces are 'present'. The third time you ask, the books appear. But you can't scroll through them too swiftly or it'll crash. It's like a game. I ordered one that I had to return, thinking it was a faulty unit. The replacement was exactly the same, so am now living with it.

Christmas Gift
Got this for my son for christmas, he absolutely loves it! Set up was extremely easy, and now we have spotify linked to it, all we hear is him shouting at Alexa to play his favourite songs!

Better than 1st Gen but still bit sluggish at times
I bought this on Prime day as it was 55% off and i had a 25% off voucher as well so got it for £30 in the end.It looks lovely from the outside and daughter was very impressed with the outer space theme.Setup was a bit problematic. First time it stalled part way through and i had to start again and when the device was setup it wasn't performing as it should so i did a factory reset and tried again and it seemed to go through OK this time.The power chord is something to look out for as the first couple of times i put the chord in it popped back out again which was frustrating when trying to move the device. It felt like it was connected properly but you have to give it a bit of a push in so it clicks into place.The screen is vibrant and bright when watching content from Prime Video. Sound is fine for me but if you are an audiophile you may not agree.It acts fantastic as a night stand clock and unlike my 1st gen device it does react to the light in the room so on a night its isn't too bright but its bright enough to see the time.It responds well to voice prompts.Performance wise i still feel it is a bit sluggish. When opening prime video you just want it to open a little bit quicker and when you ask it to go home it seems to take a while to do it.There's also been a few times when the home screen has gone blank as if its waiting to do something when i have come out of an app.Hopefully these little niggles can be sorted out via updates but this is the first device where i have had issues setting it up and the process has failed having to start again.For £30 it was a no brainer to have the latest version. I'd not want to spend full price on it though.

Great gadget
This is amazing my 9 year old loves it he uses it every day he listens to music has audible books asks alexa a million questions a day we also have the light bulb that links to it so he loves to change the colours of his room. It's easy for him to use and with the kids amazon I can monitor his content, he even rings my phone when he is in his room to ask me or show me something. Its also a good tool for his home work. I can then it off from my phone if needed and he has all his timers set and reminders.

Doesn’t work - highly disappointed
The media could not be loaded. Such a disappointment. My daughter asked for an Alexa for Christmas to listen to music and books etc in her room.Started out great, very easy to set up. That was about the only great thing sadly. The device constantly froze, Alexa wouldn’t respond and the screen would go black resulting in having to reset it. She would say she was opening stories and the page would open but no images and unresponsive for a while and then just went back to the Home Screen. Videos constantly coming up with error screens. Reported to Amazon and was sent out 2 replacements of which all did the same. Finally one of their colleagues I spoke with said they believed there is a software issue with kids+ subscription so would happen regardless of the device.We were given a full refund and allowed to keep the device as the whole reason we wanted a kids Alexa was to use the kids+ to keep it locked down to suitable content. The thing is basically an alarm clock when kids mode is turned on.
