Q: Do these come in server/client pair or do I need to buy 2? 1 for transmission and 1 receiver?

I use one as a receiver 50m from the house with the BT hub as the transmitter. You may need two for long distance, or were line of sight requires the transmitter to be high up to clear obstacles.

Q: Am i right in thinking that just one of these units can be used to pickup a WiFi signal at range and then rebroadcast it?

Yes, you can configure it to pick up a wifi channel and retransmit it with the same name to cover dead spots; or to retransmit it with a new name (SSID). I use one on a garage, pointed at the house, to connect a wired camera to the house wifi and provide wifi in the garage.

Q: Can I put a network cable from my sky router in to this extender and extend my current network?

Yes… you will need to plug it into the supplied POE injector, not directly to the device, but yes. I would advise however though that this device is designed to work best with a narrow, focused beam to send between buildings. If you want something that just gives you better wifi coverage in your garden, then you will be better off with something from the tp-link EAP family instead of the CPE family. The EAP225 for example. They can be powered centrally from a POE switch and are easier to setup using an app on your phone.

Q: Does the home unit need to be wired in or does it puck up wifi?

These need powered by POE (power over ethernet), this can be done by the supplied poe adaptor. It is best to use this by directly connecting the injector to your router and then programming the output by the web interface. This isn't really for novice use but once it is running it works as sweet as a daisy.
