Great show.
Season 3 is as enjoyable as previous two. Jane at his best.

Smarter, wittier and intricate third season.
Simon Baker (Patrick Jane) is even more mentally troubled this season, in the horrifying wake of Kristina Frye's abduction by Red John. Hiding immense feelings of guilt and self-loathing behind his beautiful, sexy smile, Patrick still gleefully enjoys taking down culprits or impressing with his sly observational wit. The writing's as sharp as ever this season, resolving the Kristina Frye disappearance when she's found alive but in a catatonic trance. Patrick then has free rein to play and upturn the old traditional and frankly, creaky crime thriller rules. We see the scar tissue ever present within Patrick, unwilling to let himself be hurt again when Erica Flynn (Morena Baccarin) attempts to get close. He is an complex, deeply layered fully realised character with a great sense of fun. If only all TV detectives were as playful with the creaky rules as Patrick Jane (sigh).

love the mentalist
I have bought and watched all three series repeatedly and I never get bored of this show. Simon baker is fantastic as Patrick Jane. This series is more polished than the first two. I absolutely love all the characters, they all bring something to the show. The stories are all well written and don't drag, with many twists and turns. I love how Patrick turns from playful and silly to sad and destroyed. It really keeps you interested. I hope he doesn't turn out to be red john, it would ruin it for me. Watching series four on TV at the moment but will be buying it on DVD when it's released to watch the games all over again. Recommend to everyone!

An excellent light crime drama to re-watch again
I've enjoyed re-watching Season 1 and Season 2 of The Mentalist on DVD and Season 3 is just as good. It's a light crime drama and is very easy watching. While I'm a fan of a lot of crime dramas on TV, The Mentalist is one of the few I'm happy to watch again on DVD as the interaction of the characters and the wonderful Jane mean I don't mind knowing 'who did it'. Season 3 continues on from Season 2 and I'd suggest watching the seasons in order to understand the ongoing story arch.

As good as S1 and S2.
If you liked seasons 1 and 2, you're going to buy this no matter what I write, and your money won't be wasted. Procedural cop show with humour and depth. Mentalist Patrick Jane and cop Theresa Lisbon make a great double act, and the supporting cast play their parts well. My only gripe with this DVD, and it is a small one, is that the menu contains show numbers only, and not show titles.

Lost its charm
Still watchable, but unlike other police procedurals like CSI and NCIS, The Mentalist seems to be winding down in season 3. The lines are getting cheesier and more obvious, there's less humourous interplay between characters (especially the previously amazing Agent Cho) and the makers seem to be relying purely on Simon Baker's charisma to get them through each episode. Agent Lisbon (female lead agent) seems even more wooden and unconvincing as an agent of the law. Id go so far to say that each episode has become a bit of a chore to watch, and in general you know that a TV show is going downhill when they let one of the actors (Baker) direct an episode. Perhaps, its a sign they arent really that bothered anymore. The Mentalist has lost its entertaining smoothness and humour, and Im afraid to say Im only still watching to the end to find out what happens with Red John.

The best season
This is the best season of the Mentalist, but in fact all of them are great - a great purchase for the seasoned fan, but if you are not a truly seasoned fan (as I am) I implore you to buy the DVDs in order from season one, they are fantastic purchases and I guarantee if you are not a seasoned fan, you soon will be!
