Q: Is the video automatically uploaded to the phone? What stops the thief’s from stealing the camera and destroying the memory card?

Q: Can any sd card be used? if the recommended sd card is not used, is this device functional?

Many thanks for your inquiry. Class 10, A2, and U3 speed micro-SD cards are required for 4K video. We recommend using a Vantrue microSD 64 to 512GB card.
