York Peppermint Patties--bad batch--melt and smash
I have never had a bad batch of York Peppermint Patties--until this last shipment! These seem to "melt" at 70 degrees and leak sticky syrup all over the inside of the wrapper before you open them. The picture looks like it is smashed, however this is the way that all of the Patties are due to the low temperature that they seem to melt. I'm not going to be able to eat these since they get your fingers so sticky just trying to open the wrapper---I've put in the refrigerator and it makes them hard but they have the syrup all over inside when you unwrap them---I'm a York Peppermint Patty lover--till now---became gun shy after the 5# package was a total loss.

Loved these
Man, these are good!! Loved them during my childhood and these brought back good memories. Tasted fresh, good quantity and well packaged. Complaints: None.

Not the best Quality, must be seconds bought in bulk from the mfr and then repackaged.
All in all... not a bad price for what you get. Of the 5 lbs. received, about 15% are smashed or has damaged wrappers making those pieces unsuitable for use. Another 30% have slight smashing of the patty within the wrapper, but still usable. This leaves about 55% usable as if bought at the higher prices sold in smaller quantities. Knowing that any manufacturer seeks to eliminate losses as much as is possible, this 5 lbs. package seems to be a repackaging of a much larger bulk package sold off by The Hershey Company to bulk buyers for resale. I doubt this product was totally damaged at the factory, but rather mixed into a lot of good product to make it resalable in bulk form. Otherwise, The Hershey Company couldn't recoup any cost of production. So the manufacture gives up a percentage of good product along with the damaged product and covers their costs. The bulk buyer then repackages in lots large enough to make the purchase attractive and cost effective and still turn a reasonable profit on their investment. Capitalism at it's finest. You'll need to understand that there's enough good undamaged product to support the purchase price. You'll just need to go through what you have, weed out anything that looks or feels damaged beyond use, then move on.One point I will make and it's why I dropped one star... I bought this lot on 20-July 2024... The individual wrappers are marked with a "Best By" date of 08 2024... making this essentially an "Out of Date" foodstuff 20 days beyond my purchase date. Does this actually mean that the product goes bad in 20 days? Not at all... But don't hesitate to start using it upon receipt. They'll be too stale within 4 to 6 months for tasteful consumption.Would I buy again? I probably would, but I'll have lower expectations the next time around, for sure. The saving grace is this...They're Peppermint cream filled Dark Chocolate shelled goodness in a single bite. What's not to love about that!

Taste great!
They were fresh, a good value and size. They were packed well so weren't crushed either. I don't know if I'll ever be able to eat them all! When I have guest I love to put them on their pillows at night or a as a gift basket in their room.
