Which size drill bit is needed for the pilot hole?

I take it these are outside, if so, when the sleepers get wet the timber will expand and these screws will snap, trust me, I have been there. Look at the Forgefix TF150 (TF150 being 150mm), Also are the sleepers oak or softwood, if oak the tannin (acid in the oak) will corrode steel (unless stainless steel or brass, brass being no good for strength on sleepers). The TF150 have a green coating on them so may help on oak. As said before, when fixing through the sleeper to the other sleeper, drill a clearance hole on the sleeper the fixing goes through, I find a 200mm length x 6mm diameter auger bit for this job is good. No need for a pilot hole and the TF150 come with a hex driver for the screws in the box.

The name suggests they are 6mm diameter and 150mm long... if you are referring to drilling a pilot hole to prevent wood splitting if screwing into wood, then I'd use a drill of less than 6mm ... if it's going into masonry, then 6mm drill with a suitable wall plug ?

what drill tip is compatible with these heafs to use a drill to screw these in?

I have been using a pozi 2 but that is because that is the most practical bit I have as it seems York on myriad screw sizes and types. Phillips works as well as any cross head bit. Pozi 1 is too small.
